helpful tips needed!

  • thank you for your encouraging me to keep plugging away at it. I was wondering on some helpful tips , when you first get started on a new way of eating. right now im on lots of water, wafer meats, applesause with pills, and dairy products dont stay down well. im trying green tea to wash out my system some so i can get rid of some of the bacteria still floating around left over from the thrush... What are some of your tricks of the trade.... ive thrown up so much im a little afraid to try to many different things... how do eggs do for most of you... some ideas would be helpful.. the weight loss and your support is very impressive,,, thanks, montana77
  • montana - i split your SOS out so that more people will see it.

as for 'tricks of the trade' the best i can tell you is that it's trial and error for ALL of us. some things will work one day and not the next, and some won't work for awhile and then be your best friend! everyone has something that's always a challenge. mine happens to be chicken breast.

so, my suggestion, introduce one new food every couple of days. eat it all by itself, and chew chew chew! and then see how it settles.

i couldn't eat scramble eggs for more than a year and a half, but poached eggs worked well and so did deviled eggs made with hot sauce! go figure...

things that are ground are a good place to start - like chili, believe it or not. so are thinly sliced things in a gravy or sauce. yes, darlin, you can have gravy. a little bit. it'll make a difference.

this will do for a start... keep us posted!!!!
  • No help from here either, except to say it's trial and error. I myself have just been put on the 'mushy' food phase as of yesterday. So far the protien shakes that were good to me BEFORE surgery are not now. I've tried eating the cream of wheat, runny instant potatoes and yogurt and none of it has agreed with me (I can't even get past the first spoonful.) I'm gonna try some scrambled eggs with melted cheese tonight to see how they go. I've heard the trick is to whip with milk and then cook just until not runny (too hard and that's not good for us). I'm sorry you're having all the issues you're having. I to am having complications and am in the most unbearable pain I've ever had. I'll be thinking of you... good luck.

  • darlins - please be careful with things like cream of wheat, oatmeal and mashed potatoes. i know that many surgeons recommend them, but there are a lot of carbs in these things and many of us dump on them. if you're having ANY trouble with a carb DON'T EAT IT!!!!
  • hope you all get better soon..
  • Sharmel, How long ago was your surgery? I am six weeks out. I can relate everything you said. I am just starting to eat some things. The wafer meats are the best with a half a cracker.

My question is the unbearable pain? Do you happen to know why you have it. I have it. I can't sit very long, ,cant' stand very long. In tears most of the time from it. It feels as though someone is ripping my skin apart. Are you on any antibiotics or meds? A nurse I talked to thought it was one of my antibiotics. I have not been back to work and I think if this pain would go away I would be better. It is located in my upper and lower abdomen and my waist. It is also going to my hips and part of my lower back and butt!

    What do you think?
