This may sound REALLY stupid....

  • but how much is a mile? Let me explain: I went walking today and when I got back home, I went to mapquest to see how much I walked and it said the distance I walked was 1.72 miles one way. Now I walked there and halfway back (it was dark and my stepfather picked me up on his way to work). So that's like 2.58. So what is that? Is a mile split into like quarters, or tenths, or ones? Have I confused you yet cause I've really confused myself! Help!
  • Lea, you probably should've asked this question in the "exercise" forum. I personally use kilometers so have no idea how much a mile is
  • Gosh, stupid me! How do I get it changed?
  • Umm.. a moderator can transfer it to the Exercise forum I guess :S
  • JasonsLea - I usually break it up into quarters.
    So if you visualize a track .25 is 1 lap around a track. 4 laps around a track equals a mile.
    .50 = half a mile.

    I hope that helped.

    I think you are asking a basic math question here.

    If you walked one way 1.72 and only walked 1/2 of that back.

    1.72 divided by 2 = .86

    Then you add 1.72 miles with .86 miles = 2.58 so that is just over 2 1/2 miles

    .25 is 1/4
    .50 is 1/2
    .75 is 3/4

    Does this help you?
  • And my mama wonders why I got such a low score in algebra! LOL Thanks everyone!
  • a WW buddy of mine pointed out that a mile (for the average height woman) is about 2000 steps. I though she was kidding, but curiosity got the best of me so I decided to clock it out. I walked and counted and kept track in groups of 100 steps all the way to 2000, then I got in my car and clocked it that way. Sure enough 2000 steps is a mile. When I get really really bored, I'll get out and walk those 2000 steps just to see where I'll end up.
  • 2000 steps? OMG that means I walk like 4000 steps just going to and from my friend's house.
