Offline calorie count software (purchasing)

  • So here's the deal: I don't have a lot of access to the internet at all anymore, and such my calorie counting has fallen by the wayside. I am looking for a GOOD calorie counting software that I can install on my computer to use offline. I know that I'll have to pay for it, and that's fine.

I have some problems with both fitday and ***********'s interfaces, but if I'm paying for software I'm hoping to get something that is a little easier to add foods and customize and make up recipes (without having to do all of the math myself, yes?)

Any ideas? Anything you love or hate? Let me know.

(Cross posted in a few places.)
  • Back in early February, I looked at a few diaries and I ended up choosing FitdayPC. I've have been using it for a little over a month now. It took a bit of getting used to, but now that I'm familiar with it, I *really* like it.

    Things I like:
    • It has more options than the online version.
    • It's very comprehensive in making adjustments (as in, when you lose weight, all calculations are tweaked to reflect that).
    • The price is right (and there's a 30-day money back guarantee, just in case).
    • I can move info from desktop to laptop (and back) if need be.
    • Adding custom foods is very easy.
    • Once I found out how to add home-made recipes, I found that to be easy, too. I don't need to do any math.
    • I like the calendar mode because of its many display options (I have my calendar set to show my deficits!)

    Things that could be improved:
    • I wish I could link it here.
    • I wish I could make custom reports. Some of the standard reports are just plain goofy.
    • I wish I could add custom activities. This is a biggie and probably the thing I wish most that I could change.
    • I could do without the Mood Log -- I'm generally upbeat most of the time, so I just don't use it.

    Hope that helps!

((I'm really curious as to what journal you listed that was blanked out!!!))
  • Hey Lena - Just wanted to tell you that you CAN add custom activities - you just have to 'calculate' the calories burned (google "calories burned" and it will bring up a bunch of calculaters - I think this site has them too) when you calculate the calories put "1" in the "time spent" field (for 1 minute) that way when you add it to fitday you're adding the number of calories/minute (ie. walking on the treadmill at 3.0 burns 7.8 calories/minute - fitday will then calculate the total number of calories burned when you put in the amount of time you spent doing the activity)

I *love* fitday .. and since I cycle calories the calendar mode is a godsend because I can see my weekly average
  • !!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs SmartyPants, you're a genius (I guess that's why she's Mrs SMARTY-Pants!)! And ever so much more observant than I am! How many times have I looked at the Activities page and NEVER noticed that I could add Customs!!!! And I add custom foods ALL THE TIME!!!! You'd think I'd have figured that out!

Where the heck is the little "smacks self on forehead" smilie???

Thanks so much! I know what I'll be doing later tonight!!! Yippee, custom activities! This changes everything! PhysDom, obviously this changes my previous post -- subtract one from the Things that could be improved list and add one to the Things I like! Woohooo!

Sorry to be so overly enthusiastic about this, but this is BIG!
