Pancake Tuesday

  • Its Pancake Tuesday

Anyone have any low cal recipes? My boyfriend is pestering me to make pancakes but I dont want to ruin all my low cal eating efforts.
  • Hooray for Pancake Tuesday!!! Yum!

(no recipes, sorry. I just like Pancake Tuesday!)
  • Mmmmm pancakes.

Hmmm, I don't have a recipe per se, but when I make pancakes I just use whole wheat pastry flour (or a high fiber multigrain mix) and top them with a little jam rather than syrup. Sliced banana is also good on top This knocks up the nutrition level a notch. Upping the fiber also makes it easier to stay with a smaller portion size.
  • Pancakes of themselves are quite lo cal ish, between 60 - 100 calories each, depending on how many eggs are in the mix, and how much oil you use. I have a crepe pan that needs no fat at all, you just dip it in the mixture then cook. The crepes are best made with 4 eggs (in pre healthy living days) but are fine made with one!!!

Like Tani I serve my pancake with lots of fruit and a bit of syrup for flavour, so I don't feel deprived, I don't know about you but I could eat a pile of pancakes without thinking.

I was naughty today, and used my weekly wildcard on a pancake with apple and raisins and toffee sauce, it was divine! (we get spolt - it was from our work cafeteria)
  • I was jumping for joy also....being that it is Pancake Tuesday and then realized....how can I eat them and still be low carb for the day?

I went to the grocery store and checked out about 15 different brands and settled on a whole wheat mix. It really isn't the pancake that is the problem, its the toppings that you put on them....BUTTER AND SYRUP!!! I'm planning on having mine with a sf syrup and cinnamon. My ex-neighbour used to have a pancake breakfast every year and the toppings were killers.....caramel sauce, fudge sauce, whip cream, chocolate chips etc etc.....ENJOY!!
  • can you make pancakes with egg whites like you can omelettes to lower the cals? I don't know I've never tried it.
