What do you do with ground beef?

  • Or ground turkey or chicken. I'm not really looking for recipes per se just a way to give it a little extra flavor so I can quickly pull it out of the fridge (cooked) and heat it up. I was thinking maybe adding some green peppers and onions might be tasty. I'm awful with spices, I mean, I like them but I have no idea what combinations to use that would taste good.

So, any ideas? What do you do with ground meat?
  • I make mini-meatloaves with lean ground beef, tomato sauce, egg substitute, diced onion and green pepper, Quaker Oats, garlic powder, salt and pepper. You mix it all up and form into oblong patties and bake. It's essentially the same as the one from Quaker's website, but I add a glaze of the leftover tomato sauce mixed with a little prepared mustard and brown sugar. It's sooo good (I'm making it tonight!)
  • For Spaghetti or Italian dishes I use Minced Garlic (not the dried kind), Basil, Oregano, Onion, Bell Pepper and sometimes Thyme.

For Meatloaf, Onion Lipton Soup Mix

For Chili: Cumin, Onion, Chilli Seasoning Pack

For Mexican dishes: Taco Seasoning Pack
  • Thanks guys, I'm definitely going to try the mini meatloaf, I haven't had meatloaf in forever! And I completely forgot about tacos

I hope you like the meatloaves! Be sure to tell us how they turn out! The leftovers are also great as sandwiches for a quick weekday lunch with tomato/veggie soup or steamed vegetables.
  • I normally put salsa in my burgers....and minced onion and sometimes minced spinach!! Its delicious, I think I may make me one tomorrow: You inspired me!
  • i make chili, speghetti sauce or add it to macaroni. glen
  • My family used to hate ground turkey..I mean hate it. Then I started cooking it in the crockpot with spices..either in chili, tacos or spaghetti sauce. It cooks all day long and really soaks up the spices. You can't even tell it's ground turkey.. it tastes great. Even my DH who won't touch regular turkey (not even for thanksgiving!) loves it.
  • Ground turkey tacos are da bomb!
  • I make hot taco rice.

    Brown Rice
    Taco Meat
    Chopped Tomatoes
    Chopped Jalepenos
    Shredded Cheese
    Dollop of Sour Cream (light)

    Burritos

    Taco Meat
All of the above except Brown Rice
    Fat Free Refried Beans

Spaghetti-hides tons of veggies in it
  • We make tacos with ground turkey too. All you really need to do is add some of Mrs. Dash's Extra Spicy blend to the meat.
  • We make open faced tacos at home:

    Whole wheat soft taco shells
    refried beans (naturally fat free)
    Ground turkey
    Fat Free cheddar shredded cheese

Pop that into the oven for like 5-10 minutes

add salsa (only a few calories and sugars in it) along with some tomatos or onions and it makes a quick dinner, especially if you predice everything and put it in little containers. It's very simple and low fat, low sugar.
  • I like making teriyaki beef & rice -- cook ground beef with some teriyaki marinade (you can find ones that aren't high cal), add a little rice, green peppers, onions, whatever you like (I despise peas, but some people like them) and there you go!

Also, I like making lean hamburgers with onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and broiled steak seasoning. The steak seasoning is da bomb.
