My wedding ring has been kind of loose for some time, but until yesterday it had never slipped off without my knowledge. Yesterday I was out running errands, grocery shopping, etc. Near the end of the rounds, I was sitting in the car and suddenly noticed my wedding ring was no longer on my hand! Neither was it in my pockets or in the car.

I was more upset than I thought I would be. My husband and I had talked about this possibility. We didn't pay a lot for our rings and had determined that "no heroic measures" should be taken to find them if we lost them. But of course the ring has a lot of sentimental value.

Luckily, the story has a happy ending. When I got home, (getting ready to call the stores I had been to) I unpacked the "cold bag" I put the refrigerated foods in when I go to the store, and there was the ring!!

We have decided that, until it is time to get it resized or get a new one, that it will remain safely in my jewelry box.

Which begs the question: anyone know how much it costs to get rings resized? Might be worth it to do it twice if it's not too bad.

Actually, if you go to the store that you bought your ring from, they should do it for free. Mine have always been free. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

I am glad you found your ring though. I know how upset I would be if I would have lost mine.

In the mean time, why not string it on a chain and wear it around your neck?

I have no idea what it costs for a re-size, but the jeweller I went to advised me to wait until I reached my goal weight before having mine altered. Apparently multiple re-sizing can weaken the ring, so it's best to have it done only once.

I'm glad you found it. If you want to wait until you reach your goal weight to have it resized, but still want to wear it, check with the jewlers to see if they carry ring guards, or ring sizers. It goes inside the ring, and makes it smaller (it's like a ring inside a ring). I remember using one when I was wearing my dh high school ring.

Congrats on losing (and finding!) your wedding ring. Howie just had his resized from a 14 down to an 11.5 last week. It cost $25 at a local jeweler. The jeweler was able to put his ring on a machine which compressed it, so no cutting was necessary. As a result, his ring's thicker than it was, stronger.

Wow...congrats on your ring falling off..lol. I had to laugh when I read your story because I've been battling the same thing. Mine has been too loose for months now and I must get in to get it re-sized....it's actually become oval shaped now instead of round...I believe from it being too big. Yeah.....I've lost mine in two garbage cans, the toliet, and late last summer...we were playing that bean bag toss game at a local bar...I went to throw the beanbag and my ring went flying thru the air...eeek. Some days it's looser than others...on those days I just wear it on my middle finger...just to avoid losing it all together. Next trip to mall....it's getting resized. LOL Again..congrats on losing the ring...LOL..that sounds kind of funny..

Thanks for all the great info! The jeweler we bought it from is just up the street, actually, so I think I will go and get a sizer and wait until I'm smaller to have anything else done to it. Kimberly, that compression sounds neat!

And it IS a funny story (though would have been less so had I not found it!)... Olivia, sounds like you need to be careful too!
