Question about portions/plates

  • Hi all,
OK, please bear with me - I've got the book on order but haven't recieved it yet.

I'm going by the guidelines from one of the stickies above regarding the plate/portion sizes. I'm doing Wave 2 and I'm wondering how veggies and fruits fit into the portions for breakfast. From what I understand, breakfast should be 75% protien and 25% grains on a 7 inch plate. So for example, this morning I made a tofu scramble with red pepper, spinach, and some grated tomato and it filled up half a 7 inch bowl. Then I added one slice of whole grain bread with some natrual peanut butter. Is that ok?

Days when I'm at the university I'm planning on taking a sandwhich with whole grain bread and PB and an orange. Would that work as well?

  • If you're using a 7 inch bowl, thats incorrect. Its a 7 inch plate for breakfast, or if you're doing cereal and milk its a 2 cup capacity bowl, filled 50/50. I dont know for sure about your breakfast meeting or exceeding requirements otherwise. I'd say you're lunch probably needs a veggie. It's supposed to be 25% protein (2 tbsp P.B. works here) 25% grain (bread) 25% fruit (orange) and 25% veggie. I could be wrong though, cause I am new!
  • wildlifechic, thank you for the clarification. I should have mentioned that the 7 inch bowl I was refering to is actually a 2-cup capacity, so from my understanding, it's fine.

As for the bread, PB, and orange, that's actually breakfast, not lunch. So I guess I should be adding more protein, since I'm shooting for 75%?

I guess I'll go on playing it by ear until I get the book...
