low fat/food choices question

  • I have been reading about the Sonoma and I am interested. I am just a wee bit concerned about seeing low fat in the recipies. I live over seas and we have always have skim milk, usually have 2% cheese, and sometimes have other low fat products, but it's hit and miss. We may be able to get fat free vanilla yogurt one week and not again for two months kind of thing. Definately would not have low fat or fat free feta! Would it still be worth it to give the book a try even with my limited food resources?
    Thanks
  • I'd say definitely yes! We almost always use regular feta, and it hasn't been a problem for us. I just make sure to keep it to a reasonable amount, which is easy with strongly-flavored cheeses like feta and mozzarella.

  • Just keep an eye on the amount of saturated fasts you are eating. Those, along with the transfats are the really nasty ones.

Keeo an eye out for yogurt or tofu based cheese.. It is lower in saturated fats that regular cheese, but IMHO seems to pack more of a flavor punch. Also there are almond cheeses out there, but I've had trouble finding those.
  • I've not been able to find low fat feta or mozarella and I just keep an eye on the amounts and it's worked fine.

    Good luck.
