Nursing Mamas: I'm going to start Sonoma.

  • I'll let you know how I fare on it. I weigh 186 right now--haven't wanted to update my ticker for that!--and haven't lost a freaking ounce for about a month now. Sonoma's fairly similar to South Beach, which I tried in the past & didn't much like because of the vagueness. This diet spells things out really well. I'm skipping Wave One, though. It's too low-cal for me while I'm breastfeeding.

There's a forum for the diet here on 3FC, but I figured I'd let y'all over here know what I'm up to as well.
  • good luck! i'm starting ww this week (after i go grocery shopping ) but i'll check out the sonoma plan also. i tried the sb diet before, but my problem is portion control, so i was still over eating.
  • Good luck! Let us know what you think!
  • Oh my, that was bad! Just bad. I'm going to guess that there aren't enough calories in the diet. All I know is that by half an hour after lunch I was hungry again already, and my poor hubby got sick he was so hungry (this isn't something that happens with him!). I dunno what it is. I have to run the calories to find out exactly what was involved. I'm certain it's a fine WOE normally.
  • WOW.

Have you tried Body for Life eating? It's breastfeeding friendly and you eat 6 times a day. I started following that last week - haven't weighed myself yet but my pants are looser...
  • I've tried it a couple of times, but I just cannot adjust to the whole small meal concept. I am certain that the Sonoma Diet is fine for most people, I do want to make that clear. I think tandem nursing makes things wonkier than even normal nursing.

I pulled out my Weight Watchers stuff. I had problems with it the first time I tried it because I'd undereat at the beginning of the day 'cause of being paranoid about not having enough POINTS at the end of the day. I did a little math, though, so I don't think I'll have that problem this time. Since you get extra POINTS for nursing I've got 34 for the whole day. I've broken that down to 8 at breakfast, 10 each at lunch & dinner, and the rest for snacks. This let me have oatmeal/wheat bran with a little milk & peanut butter and a piece of bacon for breakfast yesterday morning, which was very filling.

I am coming down with something, though, so I'm probably going to spend the next couple of days eating what I think I can keep down. (I've got a scratchy throat and a cough, so I really don't want to eat anything.)

I do seem to be back into my prepregnancy size 16s, though. I'll take an NSV any day.
