salad dressing recipe ideas

  • Hi gals,

Anyone have any good salad dressing recipes, living in Italy we are used to using gallons of olive oil and mayo, not good eh???? Just wondered if anyone had any yummy fat-free recipes???

I live in a very small village and the local shopkeeper has never even heard of a fat-free dressing, let alone seen or eaten one

    thanks
    Carrianna

ps. I am loving it here
  • Here is a idea:
    Yogurt Salad Dressing
    1 (8 ounce) container plain low-fat yogurt
    2 teaspoons lemon juice
    1 teaspoon Dijon-style prepared mustard
    1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
    1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives

Also, I just wanted to say, one of these days my dream is to goto Italy, (I am Italian), I just think it would be a wonderful place to visit.

  • I don't eat fat-free dressing, so I can't help you there. I eat the real thing, but instead of putting it on my salad, I do the dip-your-fork-in-it thing before you take a bite of the salad. I watched Jorge teach Al Roker that trick last week.
  • That's an old WW trick - I do the same...

    Susan,
What was the trick? I eat FF dressing and I hate it. What does real dressing count as under the JC plan?
  • Sometimes when I get bored with the normal FF stuff I will season a salad with just vinegar or just lemon juice.
  • balsamico and herbs!!

I count it as a fat because the one I use it Paul Newman's Olive oil and vinegar - I love this salad dressing - so much so that I smuggle it into restaurants when I go - but it is high in fat.

Any who - the idea is to put the dressing in a small bowl or plate (bowl or cup is better if you are at home - sometimes when you are out you have to settle for the bread plate - which is not a problem because we don't eat that crappy processed enriched wheat bread, right? ) Then before putting any lettuce on your fork you dip the fork in the dressing then go for the lettuce - you get a little taste of the dressing - honestly it is enough - and you spare yourself the calories and the overwhelming flavor when you get to the bottom and your lettuce is drowning...
  • To add to what Daisy said, when I'm in a restaurant, I always ask them to bring the dressing on the side. Most of the sides are about a full 1/2 cup of dressing. I just dip the tines of my fork into the dish and then spear salad from the bowl. Estimates that I've seen from Weight Watchers who started the whole thing for me is that you get about a teaspoon of salad dressing - so that's my fat for the meal.

At home, I just put a little bit in one of the tiny Tupperware containers and do the same thing.
