A little frustrated

  • I used to be able to lose weight fairly easily. Then I turned 30. And went on anti depressants. Now, it seems no matter what I do, I can't seem to get this fat off my body. I am drinking so much water, exercising, and while my food may not be perfect, it's a **** of a lot better than it ever has been. I would love to go off the antidepressant. Whenever I do, I lose weight. But then I get all weird. I'm not giving up, just wishing I were seeing results. I am at the same weight I was when I started the program in Sept. I lost a little, but I just keep going up and down. I know I could do better with the food. But damn, it's hard.
  • Marcie,
I am at work right now so I have to be quick...but you may want to try a different SSRI. I used to take zoloft and couldn't lose ANY weight. I am now on Lexapro which my DR says is one of the only SSRI's that doesn't affect weight...I am losing and I feel great, maybe you can give it a try! Message me anytime! Allie
  • I have been on Wellbutrin since 1997 and it does not impact my weightloss efforts at all. HOWEVER - it does not affect seratonin at all- it affect dopamine levels.

I was given Lexapro about 2 years ago and had a terrible allergic reaction.

Marcie - I do know that I have read that when one regulates ones insulin level the serotonin level is affected as well - in a positive way. My suggestion to you is to endeavor to regulate your insulin level (following this plan should do that for you by never letting you peak and then subsequently plummet - back off of the refined sugars etc) and then ask your doctor about possibly weaning off you current meds to see if perhaps you can do without - OR possibly try another with fewer weight sypmtoms...

Get your body as healthy as you can without regard to actual weight loss - to support your efforts - and then see about working on the meds... Worth a shot, no?
  • Marcie,
Iam not sure about the meds. I do know that I had recently read that any weight over 200lbs is hard to lose and can take as long as 4 months to get your body adjusted to your new way of eating in order to start losing. I can relate I am in my 30's and in the 200lbs area. I have been on this plan since august, as I may have told you already, But in November I did finally start losing. It took time and staying OP most of the time for my body to even slowly start releasing the weight. You may remember how frusstrated I was getting for the longested time. Hang in there and make any changes you need to but most important stick with it. And always remember we are here for you!

    Luv Tammy
  • Daisy, what kind of allergic reaction did you have? I take the generic of celexa...I don't think it does much with the weight (actually I don't remember)...but I might like to try the other if the Dr says yes...

Yes Marcie if you don't wean yourself properly, you will go "crazy" I found out that I was pregnant 4 years ago and took myself off my antidepressant and it was AWFUL!!!! (I misscarried in my 3rd month.) Maybe you could use a lesser dose for a while and see how that works... Good Luck
  • Well, Vickie... what happened was it made me EXTREMELY tired and spaced out. I figured this might pass so I ignored it. Then - on the fourth day I noticed a very red bumpy rash all over my face and I had a fever and vomitting... I stopped immediately and I can tell you this - I will not be trying any more SSRI's i the future...

***NEVER WEAN YOURSELF OFF OF A MEDICATION WITHOUT THE ADVICE OF YOUR DOCTOR _ AND NEVER STOP ABRUPTLY !!! (except of course if it is only like your 4th does and you have a terrible allergic reaction, LOL

But seriously - I know if one stops taking certain antidepressants abruptly, one can have seiures etc... do NOT go there... K?
  • Marcie, the best thing is to talk to your doctor and see if there is a different med that will not have the same reaction. I switched BP meds because the one I was taking was causing depression.

I took Serzone for 4 months after my divorce until I got out of the mood of running over my ex-husband with my car - I kept picturing him spread eagled in the parking lot with tire tracks running up his face. It did help.

Hang in there girl - we are all with you.
