  • Hi there I have not yet received the Sonoma Diet Cookbook but am patiently waiting In the meantime I was wondering if anybody found any good Mediterranean cookbooks that would go along with this diet?

  • I also look forward to the cookbook, but you really don't need one to enjoy this way of living.

    I take a look at a recipe and see how I can make it healthier and taste better. Substitute butter and margarines with oils, use whole grains instead of white, add in more veggies than the recipe calls for, cut back on sugar.. etc. Just arm yourself with your list of Wave specific foods and experiment! That is the fun in this way of eating.

    At the top of the forum are several Sonoma friendly recipes. I am trying to post as many as I can as I create them. I have lots more, but not enough finger strength or time to type them all.
  • I happen to be reading Thin For Life at the moment and they mention a cookbook in the back in the resources section. This is a well known book and author (although she is very biased in my opinion) so I imagine the recommendation is probably a good one although I've never personally seen it. Mediterraneant Light: Delicious Recipes from the World's Healthiest Cuisine by Martha Rose Shulman. 2000. New York: William Morrow & Company. You may also want to check out the South Beach stuff as I imagine much of it will come close. This diet has a lot in common with South Beach.

    Also, I am writing some weight loss material related to my job (I'm a health care professional) and am using The Mediterranean diet as one of my diet prototypes. I'm working out of 3 books for that: The Mediterranean Diet, Low Fat Lies, and The Sonoma Diet. I have also found that many low carb recipes are Mediterranean compatible--especially diets like Protein Power, Four Corners, and The Schwarzbein Principle. Atkins tends to be a bit too extreme. I'm using Four Corners as my prototype low carb diet. That book itself includes recipes for Spinach Pie, Eggplant Parmesan, Greek Salad, Ratatuoille, Middle Eastern Cucucmbers, etc. It's hard to tell where one diet ends and the other one starts sometimes.
