Quick question...

  • how do you determine whether you are big-boned, small-boned, or whatever is in between?
  • This is the method I use, which I read years ago:

    Take your forefinger and thumb of one hand and try to wrap them around the opposite wrist. If they overlap, you've got a small frame. If they touch but don't overlap, you've got a medium frame. If they don't touch, you have a large frame.
  • Thanks. I remember my mom telling me that years ago, but wasn't sure if it was still true.
  • hmmm i'm not convinced that would work if you have long fingers? but i do remember it being based on wrist measurement. i think it is by inches. have you tried googling maybe "wrist bone frame size"
  • Hi Chicks!
    Here's a post from another forum with a link to a chart that determines your frame. Health/Life insurances are using the width of your elbow.

  • Mmm, I'm surprised. According to that, I'm a medium frame. Going by the old "wrap your short stubby little fingers around your wrist" method, I'm a large frame (there's a solid half inch gap). The things you learn!
  • Like was mentioned there is a serious problem with the "use your fingers around your wrist method" but there is a pretty accurate wrist method that involves a tape measure and your height.

    Quote:
    Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height.
    For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small-boned category.
    Determining frame size: To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.
    Women:height under 5'2"
    small = wrist size less than 5.5"
    medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
    large = wrist size over 5.75"
    height 5'2" to 5' 5"
    small = wrist size less than 6"
    medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
    large = wrist size over 6.25"
    height over 5' 5"
    small = wrist size less than 6.25"
    medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
    large = wrist size over 6.5"
    Men:height over 5' 5"
    small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5
    "medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
    large = wrist size over 7.5"
    Hope this helps (the wrist finger thing doesnt work for me since i have SHORT fingers!!!) I am 5"6.5" and have a 7" wrist so I have a LARGE frame!
  • Wouldn't you know, I have a large frame.
  • Im 5'8 & 3/4 with a small frame......here I was just hoping I had really long fingers!! So I guess this means I should be carrying less weight around than I had planned on? well nuts!
  • Ha, I'm 5'7" and have 5.5" wrists, I think I just have freakishly small wrists!
  • Hmm, guess I'm lucky; they both give me the same result. I'm 5'5" and have 6.5" wrists.
  • I'm a small frame! I'm 5'8" and my hip bones are sticking out at 166. Someone should tell my hips that they're supposed to be "small"
