I am new, and a buddy would be great!

  • I am almost 43, and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I need to lose a lot I am hoping to do most of it with exercise because dieting is a lot of why I ended up this way.
  • Hello, My name is Paula. I live in the Thumb of Michigan. I to need to lose weight. How are you going to do it??? I know it has got to be freezing up there. I can't go out walking in the freezing temp. That is just me. I am going to try. I got long underware and good boots. So me and my Newfie are going walking at least 1-2 times a week to start. I would say everyday but I know that to be false. So good luck on your weight lose!!! How far are you from Mackinaw island. In the summer that is a great place to go an lose your self in walking. Good luck and let us know how it is going. I know a lady that didn't change anything at all about how she was eating or exerciseing she just stoped eating anything after 6:00 pm and lost 45 pounds. SO that is one of my goals.OH!! quick tip. If you are like my and love to taste stuff when you are cooking or bakeing chew sugarless gum and you won't want to taste anything you are cooking.
  • I am quite a ways from the bridge. Atleast a couple hours or more.

I plan to walk outdoors when the weather cooperates. I also am hoping to buy a treadmill. I fractured both of my legs within the last year, one in December and the second one in June, so I have to be really careful, especially in the snow. But I am just miserable with how I am, so I have to do something!
  • WOW!!! I hope you feel better soon. I know when I had gained all the weight in the beginning I tried the medical weight loss. I lost like 30 pounds in a month. And it was healty. I drank only water. I snacked all the time on carrots, green pepers, celery things like that. I also did portion control. I hope the treadmill works for you. Let me know how it is going. Also it helps to write down everything you eat for the day so you are held responsible. I am starting that on January 1st. I would also try to call the physical therapist if you worked with one and see if he/she can give you some ideas of what to do so you don't get hurt.
  • Hi there - I love my dogs too, btw - I have 3 of them and they are great!

Your post caught my eye as I have gone a series of injuries in the past including a fractured foot that left me in a wheelchair for several months. (That was a few years ago tho)

I'm so inspired to read that you are ready to start a program despite your fairly recent injuries. That is just so cool! I think someone else suggested that you consult with a PT or even your doctor - a great idea. Moving is so important and I'm sure you know you don't have to run a relay or anything right away - lol!!

I joined this group yesterday and my new buddy just emailed me today and mentioned she had gone MALL-walking...maybe that would be something you could do to avoid the pitfalls of walking on ice and snow in your area?

I would also be more than happy to have a 2nd "buddy" if you are still looking for one. If not, then I'll still look forward to reading your posts about your progress -

    Best wishes,
    Hy
