Anyone else baking with Splenda?

  • I am looking for some tips and ideas from others...and perhaps share some recipes as well with others baking with Splenda.
How are your results comming out? Tasting fine?
I baked some no-sugar chocolate chip cookies with Splenda the other day...they seem grainy and puffy to me. I used carob chips and followed the manufacturers tips on baking with Splenda but they still seem "interesting".
  • try using slenda and regular sugar. glen
  • good idea for some Glen, but not for me. NO NO to sugar. Thanks for the tip though...will try it with the little ones cookies.
  • Hey you guys - check out this thread...regarding baking/cooking w/Splenda.

    Splenda 101
  • It works really well for stuff like pumpkin pie filling -I made the recipe on the pumpkin can but substituted nonfat evap milk, egg beaters and splenda...I skipped the crust...the result was kind of like pumpkin pudding...danged good! Almost like eating your veggies calorie-wise...

It's also good for sweetening in coffee and for making koolaid...as far as baking with it I wasn't entirely impressed when I tried to use it for chocolate chip cookies...it was ok - but they turned out kinda fluffy...and a little dry. I used half splenda half real sugar...the link above tells the story of splenda brownies. Thanks, MrsJim!
  • Has anyone ever had issues with this bothering their systems? I tried Splenda once, but I ended up sick every time I had a cup of tea with some in it. Is it just me?

    Just curious.....
  • I was drinking soft drink while preggers with dd4, and I found that I was always nauseated after drinking it. I hardly use it anymore. Besides I've found that if I have one thing sweet, I have to have lots.
