Holiday Newbie

  • So glad I found this community. I've always struggled with my weight but this last year has been a dozzy. I've gained 30lbs since November of this time last year and haven't been able to shake the pounds no matter what I do. Four years ago I lost 80lbs after gaining on the Depo shot. I kept almost all of that weight off for four years even with limited exercise and the occasional splurge. I couldn't get below 152 but weight didn't rise either. For some reason my body is in weight gain mode, and I'll have to do is look at something yummy and 5lbs jumps on my butt. I know this is the worst time of year to be starting a diet but I really don't want to join the 200 club again before the holiday's are over. If anybody needs a buddy I'm here. I don't have a diet plan just yet but I would like to lose the 30lbs I gained and an additional 15+ to reach a goal weight of 135. Nice meeting you all.
  • Hi there! I'm new to this community so I'm looking for a buddy. I've always been a little on the heavy side, but playing sports in high school allowed me to stay at a constant weight. Ever since graduation, the weight has been creeping up on me, and I've finally hit the dreaded 200 mark. I have decided that it's time for me to get my lazy butt moving and finally lose this weight. My goal weight is 155. I don't really have diet plan yet either, but I think I'm leaning towards the Weight Watchers approach (having a specific number "points" for each day and not surpassing that value--basically just limiting calories and going for the healthy fats and carbs). I look forward to hearing from you!
  • Hello you guys and welcome!! I am new here too, you will love it, everyone here is so nice and helpful.
  • I'm new too
I'm 50 y/o .....gained 70 lbs a few years ago on prednisone....and have been fighting (sometimes) ever since to get it off. According to my calculations I have 45 to get to where I was when I started that gain....I've thought for years I wanted to get down to 150.....but a dietitian recently told me that 165 was a more realistic goal (and it seems less over-whelming also).

After trying all the fancy plans in the book(it seems)....I decided I would go back to the good old fashion less calories and more exercise. I also signed up for an on line calorie counting journal.....
My goals for this week are to lose 2 lbs (I think that will be my goal every week (slow and steady wins the race)
and to get back to Curves (2X this week)
and to drink more water (any oz will be more )...working up to 8x8oz a day.
  • Welcome! I just wanted to let you know that you will find the support & motivation you need here on this board! and if you ever need an extra push or a kick in the pants, let me know and I'll be here for you!
  • Thanks
...I gained a pound from yesterday....but my scale is a little squirrely....I can weigh 4 times in an hour and vary as much as 2 lbs during that hour.

I'm looking for a thread that has some accountability.....without being too intense....like weekly weigh ins, fun and encouragment....but not overly competitive....any ideas?
  • Hi all, thanks for responding. I've been trying to be generally eat better, to ease into this diet. Cut out the sweets so far. They really are my weakness. I want to be postitve about this new attempt at losing weight but I am scared I'll keep having the same failures. I keep repeating the same cycle, lose 2 or 3 lbs the first week, no loss the second week, then gain it back by the 3rd week for no real reason. It's like my body wants to stay fat. I'm trying to keep my hopes up but Turkey Day is on the horizon and I don't even want to think about it.

How are you all planning on making it through the holidays?
