As I venture towards Phase II...

  • Well I'm on day 3 of week 2 of Phase I (that's a mouthful). Week one gave me a great 7 pound loss . I may stay on Phase I for another week but I am not sure. Either way, once I move on to Phase II, how do I do that? How do I reincorporate other foods? Yes I read the book but I want to know how others did it. I want to make sure that I KEEP LOSING. I have a long way to go and I don't want to stall-out. How do I get fruit back in, things like oatmeal (can you have that)? So my question is, how did you move into Phase II?
  • Oops. I just noticed that someone else posted a similar thread to this one. But my question is slightly different so I'll leave it be. I don't know where to start as far as Phase II is concerned.
  • Hi... I added one food item a week ... just to be sure I didnt slow down my weight loss... I missed oatmeal for breakfast, so that is what I added first... I also ate several tablespoons of cottage cheese with it.....The second week was apples, love those.... with a small cube of cheese ( to lower the glycemic index of the food) India
  • Shannon, thanks for searching for other posts like this one. You'll find this is a very common question...there are lots of posts in here that will help you find the way that works for you.

You don't have to stay on P1 for 2 weeks if you don't have to, but considering your loss, it sounds like you have been eating a lot of bad carbs and it might not hurt to have that extra week to get you on the right track.

When you go to P2, add one thing from the list of "foods to enjoy" that is a starch (brown rice, WW bread, WW pasta, oatmeal [NOT instant], etc.) OR a fruit. Add the same one thing (for instance, ONE serving of old-fashioned oatmeal) each day for a week. If you are still losing and don't notice any cravings, add an additional item. If you stop losing or you feel cravings, think about when you could eat that item (eating starches or fruits before lunch gives me cravings), or switch to something different. Some people can't eat much fruit, some can't eat many starches. Find out what works for you. You may stall during this time of figuring things out, but that's okay. It WILL come back off, and quickly.

I gained about 5-7 pounds while figuring out my P2, but I lost those pounds and almost 100 more than that since. It does work!
  • Slightly confused...

I lost 7 pounds in one week. I'm not sure what you meant by saying it sounds like I have been eating a lot of bad carbs, but I was eating almost no carbs and the ones I did eat came from vegetables mostly. I doubt that is "bad". But thank you for your reply. I am staying on for an additional week but that is because I had my anniversary this weekend and ate off-plan (knowingly, willingly, and unregrettably). I gained back 2.5lbs which I knew were coming. But when I am OP, I more or less do it by the book, which is why I assume I lost those 7 pounds (which to be honest, is nothing to sneeze at). Congratulations on your loss thus far and thanks again for trying to answer my question.
  • Scarlett... When we eat a lot of sugar and starchy foods, they make us bloat, I am a classic example of it, I also lost a lot of weight for the first two weeks, mostly due to not eating sugar, bread.. soda and so on..... I think when we eat the proper carbs, the cells are abled to unlock and allow the glucose into them?? does that sound right girls?? Be sure and read all the strategy in your South Beach book.... and keep up the good work... start slowly adding back .....India
  • Congrats on your 7 pounds weight loss!! That's awesome!!

  • Thank you India, I didn't know that about sugary and starchy foods making us bloat!
Thank you Islander, and congratulations to you both on your losses so far!
