Thin4Life - Week of Oct 24, 2005

  • Good afternoon Lifers!

It's cold, dreary, rainy here today. Temps are hovering at 43 and the wind is brisk. The weekend wasn't a total washout thankfully. Saturday was wet but Sunday turned out to be halfway decent. Didn't do a whole lot on Saturday (should've taken advantage of the terrible weather by putting away summer clothes) other than decluttering in the dining room/living room. I really need to get the summer clothes put away.

Eating was not good on Saturday--DS got some cheese fries at the bowling alley and my willpower diminished and I had some. Oh well. Sunday was a little better and today I'm really trying to stay on track. Made a big pot of chili for dinner tonight and enough for another meal.

    So how was everyone's weekend?

Lisa: How was your trip to Rhode Island? Did the weather cooperate? I see Wilma is hitting the Naples area. Hopefully there won't be too much damage. The hurricanes have been something this year; it's hard to believe they're into the Greek alphabet!

Hi to Susan, Pam, Lala, Austingal! Hope you're all doing fine!
  • Hi Melissa -

    Thanks for getting us started.

Had an okay weekend. Went to BOS on friday night and nyc on sunday. It was interesting as we were delayed out of NYC by 2 hours. I blogged about it.

Tired, but made good food choices for once in a long time, so other than the 80oz of water I'm trying to consume today to get rid of the salt, I'm feeling like I"m back on track.

My condo is in escrow now. I am making enough of a profit that today I consider taking my job and shoving it for the next four/five years.

    Hah.

    Maybe even longer.

DP took the first part of her Ph D. general exams. Next part is on Thursday and then a week break to DC (Break=DC?) and then orals. I'll be glad when she is done.

43 sounds cold. I assume the heat is on?

I hope the Lisa is okay and that Susan is hunkering down, looks like Halifax will be getting some rain thanks to Wilma.

How did everyone else do this weekend?

  • Hi Ladies,

The weather here continues to be miserable. Rained pretty much the whole day on Saturday and Sunday was pretty overcast. Temps are chilly today maybe 50 ish with rain of course. This weekend we brought in the patio furniture and began washing the windows and putting the screens up for the looooong winter months. I really hate doing that. The good news this weekend was on Saturday I weighed in and was down 2.5 lbs....woohooo. Now I've got to keep it going. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago the pants were getting tight and I really don't want to go up a size!

Lisa I hope Saturdays marathon wasn't a complete wash out. I hope your not experiencing any Wilma damage.

Melissa I'm going to wait until DH and I get back from Miami on Nov. 15th before I start putting away the summer clothes. Cheesy fries are hard to pass up. The chili for dinner sounds nice on a brisk day.

Lala I'll have to read your blog later to find out about your Boston/NYC trip. My DS was in Boston this weekend, he had an interview with Fidelity Investments. Says it went well, I think he wants to live there after he graduates. Hopefully he'll find a job that pays very, very well.

    Hi to Susan.

Well ladies I'm off to Boston Market to pick up chicken for dinner tonight. DH and DD love the chicken and the side dishes. Hope I can stay away from the cornbread. Hope you all are having a good Monday.
  • Hello everyone. DH and I are back from RI. It was a good trip. DH finished the marathon in 3 hours 53 minutes, so he was very happy. It was 43 degrees and rainy (miserable in my book--it was difficult to get feeling back in the fingers and toes). The first two days were great. We walked the Cliff Walk, walked around in Newport (pretty area and very historic), and saw the Breakers Mansion (awesome).

Then we came home and finished putting up our hurricane shutters in preparation for Wilma. She was worse than many of us thought. Thank God, we lost 1 tree in the back yard and that's all. Many are without power (ours just flickered). We have five tornadoes BEFORE the storm. It was a weird day over all. I did not make good eating choices as we were cooped up all day. It's a new day though.

lala, good for you drinking your water. DP is almost done with the PhD. What will she do with all her free time?

Pam, congrats on the loss. I know that your weather has not been so great. You have vacation to look forward to.

    Hi, Susan and Austin.
  • Hi everyone,

Lisa, I'm glad to see you check in. I was hoping you wouldn't get hit. Sounds like other than the tree, you did okay. Glad you got home safely. Now Wilma has run into another storm somewhere over the Atlantic, we have a humdinger new storm hitting Pam and Susan.

This has been an awful year for weather.

Nothing much going on here. Non stop fun today. I'm hoping to get the last update for this map that needs to be sent off to HQ and then maybe to work on my stuff for next week. I'm a week away from a presentation and no work done!

    Yikes.

Weighed in down 1.6 whoo hooo, even after all that travel.

    Hi to everyone.

  • Hi all. The wind is howling and rain beating against the windows. It must be Tuesday in the Maritimes! Seriously, Wilma isn't really affecting us that much but the nor'easter certainly is. I think we're in for it tonight; I moved most of the projectiles off of the deck this morning.

I had the weekend from ****. Feed valve went on the boiler, resulting in three inches of hot water on the furnace room floor, mixing with black soot for a nice tasty toxic soup. I spent two days cleaning and cursing. Until the episode with the car batteries, which almost resulted in the house burning down. OK, slight exaggeration, but there were sparks everywhere and a strong smell of burnt electrical wires. Then I mostly cursed DH for having the damn things in the house and myself for not knowing more about them. All seems under control now. But tomorrow is another day.

Eating out of control. Had to go out to buy more Hallowe'en treats cause I ate the first box. When I get back from the race this weekend, I am gonna do some serious buckling down. I'm wearing pink today and bear a strong resemblance to something that rhymes with twig.

More tomorrow. Am going to bed early tonight cause I have a feeling I'll be up half the night monitoring falling trees.
  • I hope everything is quiet on the eastern front.

Went out to dinner last night, did okay, had one glass of wine and now I'm hung over like a frat boy and a garbage can of vodka, limeade and lime sherbert.

    What a light weight.

Did do a 2.5 mile brisk walk though and am going to down 100 oz. of water.

    More later!

  • Hi Ladies,

All is quiet on the Eastern Front...at least no rain so far. Yesterday the Berkshires got up to 3 inches of snow. It's much to early for that..snow for Christmas is OK but not for !
Busy work week, chock full of meetings. I think tomorrow will be a little better.
Have any of you been watching the "Biggest Loser" on Tuesday nights? It's actually very good. Last night they showed a man who weighed 400 lbs and lost over 130 lbs. The change in his appearance was amazing....he looked 20 years younger. Anyway this show has really drawn me in although DH and DD don't really care for it too much.

Lala congrats on your loss. I'm having a tough time staying away from the candy. I bought it much too early this year.

Susan, yup the Nor'easter was a beauty! As I was driving home last night the car was pelted by hail balls but at least no snow in my area. That was pretty scary business for you this weekend with the furnace. Have you gotten the mess all cleaned up?

Lisa welcome back. Sorry the weather was so miserable in RI. Yes, I'm very glad I have a vacation to look forward to.

    Hi Melissa.

Well ladies my coworker is beckoning..I'll see you tomorrow!
  • Hi everyone,

Beautiful here today. Cold -- 39 on my way to the gym. Did a good weight work out and a 1.5 mile hilly walk as a warm up. The seat warmers in my new volvo go all the way up the back. Oh it feels so good, I'm sorry my commute isn't longer. NOT.

Having a really hard time at work. I'm being micromanaged to a point of almost wanting to quit. This is not good and is making me crazy. I was told yesterday that I didn't need to go to my meeting next week. WTF? I putting my case together for what my job is supposed to be and roadmapping the next six months.

Pam -- the noreaster sounded terrible. I'm not crazy on hail. I think I would freak. The halloween candy has not been opened yet. Its not getting opened until 5:55 PM on Monday. Then I'm going to give the rest to the flight attendants on my redeye to DC.

Susan -- How goes the cleanup? I would be livid and then some. Maybe its time to decutter for H?

Lisa -- How goes clean up from Wilma? I'm sorry that you lost a tree. They are hard to replace.

Melissa - Hope everything is going okay.

    Fun weekend plans folks?

Gotta split, find a buoy and move it.

    lala
  • Pam and Susan, sorry about the nor'easter. I don't like hail. It causes much damage. Did you have effects from Wilma and Alpha?

lala, I'm glad you're exercising--good. Keep drinking that water. Ewww, micromanager--the worst. It shows a lack of trust and faith in your abilities. I don't blame you for thinking of quitting.

The damaged tree is sitting at the curb. It's sad, but it could have been way worse. There are still people without power--that is not good. The flooding here is horrendous, too. Did you see TS Beta formed? This has been a terrible year for sure.

I'm off tomorrow. Plans for the weekend include golf, volunteering at a 5K run for Arthritis Foundation (DH will run it), two picnics (one from my workplace and one from DH's).

It's beeeyewtiful here today--it's in the 70's with a light breeze and sunshine. Ahhh.
  • Hi everyone!

It's been really crazy here--not with a pile of work but with some rumors that have been flying around which are totally non-factual. It's like a cancer that is moving rapidly through our support staff and it's very frustrating. I'm on our Compensation Committee and there's no truth to the rumor. *sigh* I went home last night with a montrous headache and a knot in my shoulders that is continuing to grow as the day goes along.

Along with that I went for my WI on Wednesday and was up 3.2# I'm so frustrated with this up and down (more up than down) movement of the scale. I'm not looking forward to my trip out of town this weekend and that's adding to the stress. Too much going on.

I did manage to get out for a brief walk at noon and am hoping to get another short one in later on. I'm going to a talk after work on "Strategies for Emotional Eating" at the Wellness Center. The timing is perfect. I didn't eat my way through the evening yesterday so that's a good thing!

Pam: Congrats on your weight loss!!! WTG! I've caught a couple of episodes of The Biggest Loser--it's actually pretty good. I missed it this week. Glad to hear you haven't been hit with the rain. Today is the first day it isn't raining--although it's still overcast and a cool 46. I'm not complaining though because I could be shoveling snow!

Lala: WTG on the exercise and getting your water in!!! Keep up the great work! I'd probably be trying to figure out ways to get out of my job if I were being micromanaged--I'm lucky in that respect, my boss doesn't have his hands in what I'm doing and pretty much lets me get my stuff done.

Lisa: Glad to hear you had only minimal damage--I haven't caught any more of the reports as to how bad FL got hit. My boss was supposed to go to a conference in Miami and decided not to go. Anyway, I hope the flooding subsides and that the rest of the season passes by quietly. It's been terrible in terms of the number of storms that have evolved. Yikes! 5 tornadoes!

Susan: What a frustrating weekend you had! I hope you've been able to get things cleared up. Did you survived the storm okay? There's nothing worse than having howling winds and things flying through the air. You're doing okay--keep looking forward and don't get upset over the small setbacks--they're not going to matter in the big picture

Hi to Austingal! Hope things are going well with you.

Well ladies, I'm hoping the rest of the day goes well. I have to get laundry done tonight and get myself ready to leave tomorrow. The good side of all this is that we only have a 2 1/2 hour drive! I'll try and post more later.
