  • Mornin' chicks!

Barb, you are SO close to goal, girl!!! I'm so thrilled for you!!!

Oy, the rain, huh? At least it isn't snow, right? That's what I keep telling myself. Thankfully, we have tons of colorful trees to look at in the meantime and that's keeping my spirits high. Our garden still has ripening tomatoes and lots of green beans and cucumbers. Funky!

Got DH at the airport, then stopped at a local bakery for lattes and bagels...I had a whole wheat sesame with veggie cream cheese. Yum!

Then we headed home and both crashed...slept until right before my appointment with my psychiatrist. That went well, then headed home to do dishes, have chicken soup for dinner, and then homemade apple pie (WW crust, splenda, ww flour/oats/walnut/light butter made with canola oil/splenda streusel) with caramel sauce (new Milk Maid SF caramels melted with skim milk...yum!). It was a nice dinner. I had some broccoli with cheese sauce on the side to up my veggie intake.

Not much going on today...I'm going to meet with the head of the literacy volunteer corps so I can learn about the opportunities they have available. I'd love to volunteer with them and help adults learn to read! That's in the morning, then in the afternoon, my friend Mel is coming over to hang out. In between, I'm going to try to make some tomato sauce with the tomatoes that did ripen already. I picked a ton of fresh basil and have a clove of garlic waiting. Should be fun!

Have a great day, chickies and enjoy your weekends!
  • Good morning. I am on my way downstairs to check out Lucy. The little brat chomped up my glasses last night. I found one lens and some glass bits. I am hoping she is OK. Otherwise......... I hope to be in later with good news.
  • Hellooooo all

Beachgal: I don't mind the rain myself...tends to make me "nest" - y'know...clean, bake, organize. Oh yeah, and NAP! Lucky you - fresh organic veggies right in your own backyard!

Had a traumatic event with a kitty yesterday. Coming home from my son's soccer game on Wed I was on a back country road when I suddenly had a kitten in my headlights. I tried to go over it so that it would go under my car avoiding the wheels. I didn't hear a bump but I did stop, turn around and go back. I had just bumped it and it had a broken leg. Scooped him up in an old towel and took him home. What a sweetheart of a kitty. Took him to the vet yesterday morning who informed me that he was beyond repair. Very sick, thin, dehydrated. I could either spend $1000 for surgery and a plethora of shots or euthenise him. It was awful. I called my husband, I cried and I finally decided to free his spirit. I was sad the whole day and ate a whole bag of oreos to console myself.

Sigh...today is a new day. How is everyone else doing? (And even if I don't post, I try to read everyone's postings every day to stay connected! You are a fabuloous group of ladies!!!!)
  • Good Morning, chickies!!

Beachgal: That pie sounds yummy! Maybe I'll make something like that for the upcoming holidays. I love holiday cooking. I make this brown rice and soy sausage stuffing with apples that's 100% OP. Yummy, can't wait!! I may add some wild rice in this year.

Tamaroon: How awful! You did the right thing. And maybe it all happened for the best since if the poor thing was sick and starving already it probably would've had a much more painful death on its own. I know that had to have been a horrible thing to go through but the little kitty is at peace now so you can be too.

Today is going to be a busy one. I've got to go to the field, the hard sites that are up a freakin mountain, then try to be back by 3 so we can leave for camping around 4. I want to set my tent up while there's a little light outside. Can't wait. No time to make my granola this trip so bought some lf sf stuff from the health food store. I know I won't be 100% OP but I'm bringing all P2 stuff for my meals. It's the smores and the beer that will be the kickers! But at least I'm climing a mountain beforehand, right ? You ladies have a great day!!
  • Oh, Taramoon, how heartbreaking! You were wise to free his spirit. Try not to be sad.

Well, my darling Lucy greeted me with her usual bark and jumping straight up in the air so all is probably well. I am going to keep a close eye on her for the next 48 hours and will not be going away for the day tomorrow. I was invited to "The Hunt" at a friend's farm - yup, the real Hunt - Yoiks! Tally Ho! and stuff. No way I'm going to put my darling in the kennel when she could be in trouble.

Beachgal, working for adult literacy will be so rewarding. One of the men here in the village finally learned to read and write at 55 and we are all proud of him. Enjoy your afternoon with Mel - old friends are good friends.

I need to go to town for 9 to get my glasses replaced. I look pretty silly wearing dark glasses in this rain and gloom. I will pick out new frames and they will get them ready during the day. Then another drive to town late afternoon to pick them up. Oh boy! Two hours on the road!
  • Posting at the same time as The Pear!
Pearshape, go searching for puffballs when they start with the Smores and beer! I'm sure you will be OK a bit off programme with mountain climbing involved.
  • Good morning everyone....quick drive by - I have to be at work in about 20 mins & I'm not ready yet - YIKES!!!
Have a great day & weekend!!!

  • Good morning Chicks!

Ruth- I hope Lucy continues to be okay.

Taramoon- that is so sad about the kitty.

    Kyemom- Congrats on your scores!

Hi! to everyone else. I'm having trouble posting today. The phone keeps ringing. Imagine these people wanting me to WORK!

I did not eat well last night, but made it to the gym to take Step aerobics! It was great. I almost made it the whole time, but was pulled out of class at the end b/c DS had a potty accident. I did better than last time. I actually didn't start looking at the clock to see when it would be over until much later.

    Well, gotta get to work!
  • It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood... a beautiful day in the neighborhood... won't you be my, won't you be my, won't you be my neighbor?

I guess I'm in a bit of a silly mood. I am so glad it is Friday. I asked last night about helping develop the curriculum and teaching at Twilight Camp and got offered the chance to direct the whole thing! No thanks! I am just not ready to direct a 5 day camp that normally has about 400 boys! Now, I might do assistant director.....

I'm teaching the music beltloop at our campout next weekend so I spent yesterday collecting songs from all sorts of different types of music. I heard so many old favorites that brought back great memories - and realized once again how hard it is to find country music that is appropriate for young boys!

My weight is actually a little higher than my ticker but is staying the same. I've just had too many things going on to concentrate as well as I should. I'm not worried. I will get to goal eventually and am still at a healthy weight even now.

Taramoon - You did the right thing. And I know how hard it is even when you haven't had the animal for very long. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just can't save an animal that is in bad shape.
  • Today is the first day that I haven't lost even an ounce. And while I'm thrilled about the 8 lbs I've dropped since Sunday and I know it's a lot, I'm still rather annoyed that I didn't even lose an ounce. I guess I'll just have to work harder today.
  • ww---don't get frustrated...you will not lose everyday, and you may go for weeks without losing...you have to stay positive and OP.
  • Thanks for the support, kyemom. I've been telling myself all week that I should only weigh once a week, but I've been doing it every day. So, today was a bit of a let down. I guess I should take my own advice and stop checking daily.
  • Morning All!!! For those of you who read my need support or maybe just a hug post a month or so ago I just wanted to let you know that everything is getting better.

The best thing is that my Aunt's house sold and we closed on it yesterday. YAAAA WHOOOOOOOO!!! I don't think my aunt is going to be able to stay in the senior apartment we got for her because she isn't feeding herself and she fell because she is so weak. She was back in the hospitle and now back in the nursing home rehab again because she tore all of the ligaments in her right knee. She can stay there for 53 days and we think we are going to leave her there until we can find some kind of assisted living for her.

My job is very secure again and hubby has another part time job (this makes 4 part time jobs for him right now) that he has two months to prove himself at and then he can go full time. I'm confident that he will do wonderful but any of your prayers and good luck wishes would be appreciated.

My I haven't been staying OP very well and have gained 10 pounds in the last 2 months. My 40th birthday is next Thursday so after we celebrate that I am going to start P1 again with hubby for two weeks and see if we can get back on track again. Been having trouble all year about turning 40 but you know I woke up one day this week and thought "you know I'm almost there and I don't feel any different" so I guess I have finally come to terms with it.

Beachgal - I would love to have your apple pie recipe in detail. I'm a pretty good cook but I can't just throw things together and have it come out OK. I have to have pretty detailed instructions. I think teaching someone to read would wonderfully rewarding. We don't have a literacy program in my little town so if the person you are meeting with has any ideas for starting one I would love to hear about it. I know our community could use one.

Pearshape - Your stuffing recipe sounds wonderful. Can you share it with all of us?

Taramoon - Your poor dear I know how you feel we had to put a litter of 6 kittens down one time and I think I cried for a week. We all know it is for the best but it still hurts. Here is lots of hugs for you.

Ruth - I'm so glad your "little" Lucy is doing OK. I so enjoy reading about your and everyone else's furbabbies.

Beach Bum - Glad you are feeling better. I have been fighting a nasty head cold for about a week now myself and am finally starting to feel.

Schatzi - Hope you get to feeling better soon. We all miss your bright happy spirit when you are gone.

Kyemom - Congrat on the great grades.

Soon, Barb, Djett and Winter - Hi! Hope you all have a great OP day.

And to all you newbies out there welcome to the beach . I don't get to post very often but I lurk just about every day and read everything.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
