New Here & Anyone Try Low GI Diet?

  • Hi!

I am an ovo-lacto veggie and so happy to find this board. I need to loose about 40 pounds and am considering trying the GI Diet.

Has anyone tried this as a veggie and if so have you found any good books or websites?

    Thanks!
  • Well I am vegan and I eat as low GI as possible...what book or specific plan are you going to follow?
  • Hi, Yogini!

I am not sure which plan I am going to follow. I don't really want to go low carb because I've been there and tried that it the weight came flying back on the second I walked down the bread aisle.

I like the idea of low glycemic. It sounds healthy and doable but was curious if anyone had good suggestions to read up on how to do it for vegetarians.

So, many of the diet books don't consider us veggies.

Are you following any specific plan?

  • I am following a plan of my own, blending ideas from many different pro-veg doctors (Mc Dougal/Barnard/Furhman) and eating mostly green leafy and cruciferous veggies, fruit smoothies (berries and citrus), beans and legumes. It is basically a whole-foods, high fiber, low GI, no or minimal added sources of sugar or salt plan. It's a lot more fun than it sounds

I have searched online but the vegetables I eat regularly (kale, broccoli, mixed greens) are barely mentioned even in the lists of low GI foods! The best way for me to check many of the foods I regularly eat is from a list like this:

There are a few books (GI diet books etc.) out that look good too, bit still don't specifically address veg*n low GI' ers!

Good luck and PM me if you'd like!
