We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
    We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

    WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!
  • Andrea - It sounds like you are making very sensible goals and each target you reach will feel so wonderful. 2.5 lbs a week is doable (is that a word lol), anyway, I am sure you will reach 325 by November 5th. I don't put time limits on my goals because I don't want to disappoint myself, but my first goal is to get under 300 lbs. I have 15 lbs to go.

    Bye for now,

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Hi ladies, I've been reading the board, but too busy with work to post til now. Glad to see everyone seems to be doing well
JulieCees: Unfortunately, I have noticed that the more we try to be healthy or lose wt, someone who is not doing something about their wt problem becomes surly or angry about it. When you are doing well with a wt loss, or lifestylechange, the ones around you who arent doing well are constantly reminded that they arent doing anything. I have friends who have never commented on the fact that I have went from a size 24 to a 14/16. It hurts, but deep down i realize their motivation. I think you friend will come around, she is jus sad that she isnt doing well with her wt loss efforts.
Amni: have you tried the Disco Sweat yet? you will love it
Welcome to all the new posters, glad to have you here.
I wonder if Catherine made it to Canada yet, I cant wait to hear how her trip was!
Dogpal, if your reading this, please come back and post, i miss you
JillyBean: how is it going for you, now that you were able to quit your waitressing job? Good i hope.
Well, ladies have a great night, and good weekend. Dont give up
  • AARRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished typing a nice long post to everyone and then my browser went down and I lost it all. So frustrating!

Well, let me summarize my lost post:

Ammi - I use diaper rash ointment under my belly everyday and that has helped prevent rashes for me.

Julee - Congrats on the loss and sorry your friend was so angry and harsh with you. It is incredible to me the different reactions we receive from people in our life when we make positive changes to our lifestyle and begin to have success.

Andrea - Congrats on your loss too. Keep up the good work and you will have no problem meeing that 25 pound goal by graduation time.

It is lovely weather here in TX today. 63 and sunny. Finally, a break from the heat. My dog and I will certainly enjoy our walk later today in this weather!

Take care, all, and have a great weekend!
  • Oh Xena I know exactly how you feel when you write a long post and it gets lost for whatever reason. Now if I find a post getting long I copy it all along the way so that if I lose it I can just paste it in a new reply box. Thanks for the tip about the diaper rash cream. I am using that now on the sore parts so hopefully it will do the trick. I am glad the weather is cooler for you now. I used to be a real heat freak, but since living in the UK and getting used to the cold weather, if we do get anything over 90 f I am dying, especially since I gained so much weight.

Futurediva - Nope I haven't had chance to do the DVD, but I really am going to attempt to do it next week. I will let you know how I get on.

Take care all and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Hi Guys I am getting nowhere.... I've not lost anything for about 4 weeks, and just cannot be bothered with the gym....

    I'VE FAILED AGAIN!
  • Alison - you haven't failed yet again, you only fail when you totally give up on yourself. You haven't done that because you are here posting. If you are bored with the gym why not try a different exercise. Do you like dancing, maybe you could take up a dance class. Or there's swimming, or just ordinary working out to a fave exercise DVD. Put these past 4 weeks behind you, remember how great it feels to see a loss on the scales, and to feel in control of your eating. Try to remember that and hopefully it will motivate you to carry on.

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Alison....You haven't failed....just stick to it. I know it is frustrating but just stick to it and I am sure you will see some results soon. I don't know if you like walking but I have been walking everyday for part of my exercise program...maybe you could try walking. Hang in there girl...we are here for ya.

  • Hello Ladies, I'm sorry I haven't been around, I have not been in the best of moods lately. Since being on this Byetta I have lost my appetite and find it hard to eat when I am suppose to, actually I forced a cheese sandwich down this morning so I wouldn't get sick and that was at 10am here is is 5pm and still I don't want to eat and I have to inject again. I know some women say **** I wish I didn't have the hunger, although I like it, it still scares me because I don't lose weight and I don't have energy. What am I to do. I am going to the doctor next week I am going to tell her about this major side effect plus the headaches I can handle them, it just not the eating part.
  • Hi Ammi
    Quote:
Sword and Canteen - love the name, how did you choose it?? I was talking to my therapist today about things that I should eat or take that are good for me. But it's all so incredibly expensive. Herbal based tablets really cost the earth and my argument is that if they do so much good for us, why aren't they available on prescription so that people on low incomes can have access to them!! Over here if you have a life time condition like my ostomy, or a thyroid disorder like my sister has, then you get prescriptions for free. And if you are low income and claim income support benefits they are free too.
I was on the website of a writer named Holly Lisle and she was talking about the lead character of one of her books (which I need to order by the way). The character was faced with two choices which, to make a long story short, was the easy or the hard way. The easy way was represented by a buffet of lavish food, accolades, glory and the hard way was represented by a sword and a canteen of cold water. The character chose the sword and canteen because that was who she was. Even though the easy road was available to her it would’ve cost her more in the long run.

I realized that what seems easy in the long run is actually more difficult. Being the way I am with my eating is easy but in the long run it is costing me more and has made life more difficult to live. So, now, I choose the sword and the canteen and walk a road that may be more difficult but in the end is the best. That’s going to be my mantra (?) as well as the Galaxy Quest tag ‘Never Give Up, Never Surrender.’ I love that movie.

Mazarin~ Don’t give up. You haven’t failed. It could be that your body is just adjusting. A lady I know worked at losing weight for six months and barely lost anything and then all of sudden she started dropping like five pounds a week. She shrunk before my eyes! Sometimes our bodies can be stubborn. Hang in there. Also if you use any type of sweetener like Splenda, I heard that that actually causes weight gain. I can’t give a direct quote because I heard it second hand but maybe do a google search. Keep at it. You will be successful.

Rcruz~ Yikes! I would definitely talk to the doctor about that. Maybe the dosage is too high. Try eating small meals throughout the day. I know you don’t feel like eating but your body really needs the nourishment. Not eating could be causing low blood sugar and subsequently the headaches.
  • Hi everyone,

I'm kind of new to the boards. I've posted a couple of places but I wanted to introduce myself here. I've been reading posts for a couple of days and you all seem so supportive.

I have quite a bit of weight to lose. I just started Weight Watchers on Monday, before that I did Atkins for a couple of weeks, but just couldn't deal with it any longer and gave up.

I'm also going to the gym. I have two small kids and the gym has childcare, and that's quite a motivator .

I'm really looking forward to getting to know you!
  • Welcome Amy!!!! Sounds like you are off to a good start with joining Weight Watchers...So how did your first week go? Please stick around with us and keep us informed of your progress and just know that we are all here for you. Good luck!!

    Andrea
  • Ammi – I did have fun shopping in my closet. I fit into a nice pair of wool pants that definitely did not fit 30 pounds ago. The tops I chose were not as exciting, as I did wear them last fall (before I gained 30 pounds!), but it was nice to be able to look a little more professional than I have lately.

Mazarin – Ditto what everyone else is saying – you haven’t failed! This is a lifelong endeavor, and certainly there will be bumps along the way. You’ve had one – you’re human!!! So, you haven’t lost in 4 weeks. Have you gained it all back?? So you haven’t been to the gym – can you never go again? Setbacks. Just setbacks. When you’re ready, get back on the horse. You’ll feel 1000 times better for it when you restart and don’t give up on yourself.

Rhonda – Those side effects aren’t fun. I’m glad you’re going to your doctor. I think sometimes I do myself the most damage when I let my fears rule me. They do double damage: I spend too much time thinking about them AND they affect how I think about my eating, etc. I have to work hard to move past them. The doctor should be able to give you information about what’s going on, maybe change some things around. Info is power, and you can hopefully use it to help you move forward.

S&C: love the story behind your name. So true. (And I love Galaxy Quest too!)

Amy: Welcome! I just joined recently and am getting so much out of the experience here!

After my ½ day conference yesterday (where I avoided all the pastries, ate a reasonable lunch with no dessert, and ate the nice fruit and carrot sticks I brought), I went out for Korean Barbeque (kal bi). Unlike some other meals out recently, it was delicious! Before we went I had a snack, because it is exactly the kind of place that is dangerous to me (communal meat is grilled on a little fire at the table, and you place it in a lettuce leaf with a little rice, Korean veggies…) – NO portions!

Well, ate reasonably, and got full. AND KEPT EATING SOME MORE!!
Now, I have 3fc to thank for what happened next, because I am just not gonna beat myself up over it like I would in the past, nor am I giving up! Instead, I am trying to figure out what I might be able to do in the future to not go over board. First, I think I should have picked fruit as a pre-dinner snack (instead of a small portion of pasta). I think it would have filled me up more. Second… well, I don’t know the second yet. Over the past 3 months, I have identified this situation (keep eating the food in front of me) as my biggest nemesis, and need to continue to strategize about it. I did better than in the past (and that’s important) but there’s room for improvement. One strategy is never to go out for kal bi again, but at this point, that’s not what I want to conclude!
  • Hello Friends,

It's Sunday afternoon and it's a lovely day for drying clothes on the line - shame I did all mine yesterday and had to dry them indoors

Today marks the end of 7 weeks of dieting. I have one more week before I have to weigh. I must admit that I am not looking forward to weighing, but I know I must if I am to know if I need to lower my points or anything. I have stayed within my points range, and done my house work/exercise. So I am hoping to see a 4 lb loss. I was thinking about it last night and got quite down when I realised I still need to lose another 14 lbs before I am back to the weight I was when I first shocked myself on the scales 5 years ago. At the time I remember thinking I was disgusting and no way would I stay that heavy. That's right, I didn't, I went and yo yo dieted for years and then got up to my heaviest weight of 329 lbs. I refuse to find myself sitting here in another 5 years time, wishing I was 329 lbs instead of perhaps 500 lbs. I have to keep in control of what I eat, and even if the scales do upset me at any time, I have to keep focused and strong.

Rcruz - I am so sorry that you are feeling so 'off' on those new meds for your diabetes. I would definitely agree with you that you need to speak to the doctor about it all. It's bad enough that you feel nauseus, and have no energy, but not being able to eat also won't be doing your metabolism any favours. Do try to eat light things, perhaps a cheese sandwich was too much, maybe some cereal, or some fruit, or crackers. Just enough to keep the body running, but not enough to really turn your stomach. Please let us know what the doctor says and take care.

Sword & Canteen - thank you so much for explaining how you chose your name here, you put more effort into that than I did with mine. Mine is my nickname anyway and I just added UK at the end because that is where I live

Amy - hello and welcome. Which WW plan are you following, the new core one, or the points? I follow the points plan and it really is the best diet I have even been on. I have used it on and off over the years and would lose 30 lbs then gain it back. That's because I saw it as a diet with a goal to reach and then I could pig out again. The goal was too hard to get to, so I would give up. I would say I was taking a break but I would take months to get back on track. This time I really am seeing this as a lifestyle change, it's not a diet, and it's something I will do for the rest of my life. That doesn't depress me though because I am just learning to eat the right foods in the right amounts and to not eat for comfort or for any other reason than being hungry.

Oh and a little info about me, I am married, this is the second time around, this time with Mr Right and between us we have 3 daughters, but only two of them live with us, one is my hubby's, she is 14 in November, and one is my daughter and she was 14 in May. Two hormonal teenagers, what fun lol. I wish when I was divorced and had my little girl that they had a gym or even a pool that had day care with it. It's a wonderful idea and I hope your girls will have a fun time there while you are working out in the gym.

Andrea - I love to see your posts, you are so sensible and supportive. How are you going with your weight loss. What day do you weigh?

Sharon (Voodoo) - hope you are having a lovely time with your parents. Are they taking you out to anywhere where the food is too tempting. Nothing like a sunday lunch in a pub,

Sharon (neurotica) - I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I haven't been on your forum today, but I think I will check it out later when I have got my chores done. Well done again on that brilliant weight loss

PJ, Luan, Dogpal, Jill, Alison, Kate and anybody else I missed, hope you can post again soon and let us know how you are getting on.

Oh well I guess the ironing isn't going to do itself. So I think I will go have some lunch, prepare whatever we are having for tea, and then do the ironing before my daughter comes home from her dad's. Bye for now,

    Hugs,

    Ammi
  • Hi Wyllen - so glad that you found some lovely clothes to wear. It must be wonderful to get back into clothes that were previously too small.

Congrats to you as well for being able to go out and enjoy yourself at that Korean place and to not beat yourself up about it. You have totally got the right attitude on learning from the experience, and trying to think of ways that you can still go there again but perhaps not eat as much. The most important thing for women like us who have a lot of weight to lose is to retrain ourselves and way of thinking. To eat when we are hungry, not for comfort, and to know when to stop. Paul McKenna, a hypnotist over here has a book and CD out called I can make you slim. In it he emphasises that you must eat when you are hungry, really savour your food, enjoy every mouthful of it, and if you do that, then your body has time to get in touch with your brain to say, hey I am getting full, and then you have to learn to put your knife and fork down even if you have food left. It's all common sense and I bet it's how thin people eat. So like I said, we have to teach ourselves the right way!

    Hugs,

    Ammi
