  • I just stumbled accross this site yesterday and it seems super, so I thought I'd jump right in and introduce myself.

    My name is Kim and I'm a 25-year old mom of a soon to be 5-year-old boy (his birthday is on Thursday!!) and a 3-week-old girl. My plan has been to start seriously working on my weight loss once my little sweetie is 4 weeks old, so I thought I'd get planning so I'll be all ready for next week.

    I gained about 35-40 lbs during my pregnancy but I'm not too sure how much I've lost yet since I don't have a scale at home right now. Anyhow, I'd like to lose all my baby weight (which would bring me to 190 lbs) and keep going another 20 lbs or so. I was down to that weight only a few years ago when I was really into running and I miss how fabulous I felt at that weight.

    My plans for right now are to start walking regularly again since that was my main form of exercise throughout pregnancy and it's easy to include baby. I'd also like to get back into running relatively soon (Does anyone have any idea on when it's considered safe to start running?) and I'd really like to set as a long-term goal running a half marathon. I ran one back in 2001 and I've always wanted to do another one.

    On the food side of thing I'm still trying to decide if I should dig out my old WW stuff. I know that it has worked well in the past but I haven't quite got the motivation in gear for that much work yet!

    Alright, that's enough about me for now! I'm going to do a bunch of reading on here and hopefully I'll get some inspiration!
  • Congratulations and welcome! I've tended to use Weight Watchers stuff to ease back into weight loss. Walking has always been my main exercise too; a good double stroller was well worth the cost.
  • Welcome & congratulations on your new baby! I'm impressed you're getting ready to start working on weight loss at 3 weeks pp. I was a wreck at that point. I think (I'm praying at least) it must be easier after your first because you have some clue what you're doing.
  • Some days are better than others, so I do what I can on the good days. Today was one of those days where I just focused on keeping us fed and dressed and scrapped any other plans! It definitely is easier the second time around, though.

    Today I weighed myself on the scale I used before I was pregnant. I'm a full 31 lbs heavier than pre-pregnancy. Ugh. I'd really hoped that once all the fluid I was retaining went away that I'd have dropped more than that.

  • Just go slowly! Don't run until you get the OK from your doctor at your 6 week check-up. Keep nursing and wear your baby in a sling (or walk often with a stroller) and the weight will come off before you know it! Slow and steady wins the race.

  • Hi there. I am new here too. I haven't posted too much. Congrats! Good luck on your journey. I have a 2 yr and 5 month old. I am still trying to figure it all out. I think they have a tag team effort against. I think we are finally finding a groove.

    Yeah, it's wonderful when they get along, until you realize they're conspiring against you.

    One of my best purchases was a double stroller where the front seat flips around to face the back seat. The girls love facing each other, & it made covering them up with blankets during the winter a bit easier, since I could use one blanket for both girls if it was big enough.

    I'm thinking I just won't tell my doc that I've done interval jogging/walking twice now at less than 3 weeks.

    I just GOT to get this weight back off, and I've been outta commission too long. But I do take it much easier. No hard running, and making sure not to stretch my legs too far to tear any stitches or anything. Same with my aerobics videos that I've done twice this week. I just stuck with easier moves and concentrated on adding weights to the upper body and lesser on the lower body for right now. Kinda like the month or so before birth. I can tell what my body can and can't take and I don't push more than I feel comfortable with.

    I have a 3 year old daughter and a 7.5 year old son and I am breastfeeding my son. I have been on weight watchers since the day after he was born and with my doctors guidance I have lost 54 kg (around 118 pounds) almost scares me to say that number!
    I have around 13 pounds to go till I reach my goal weight of 67 kg.
    So good luck with your journey, chin up and keep on swimming.

  • OMG Bugbias in your post you said "7.5 year OLD son" and in your sig line it says "7.5 months" so I'm praying you're not breastfeeding a 7 1/2 year old boy. I know extended breastfeeding is popular here!

    I couldn't figure out why she was nursing the 7.5 year old and not the three-year-old! Pregnancy makes me stupid.

    And Marbear, making nutritious choices is the important part, right? Good for you, good for baby. It's never too early to set a good example. Especially with breastfeeding. What we eat does flavor our milk somewhat. I attribute both girls' happy noshing on Korean food to my having a pretty wide diet. It can only be good to get them used to different flavors, especially healthy ones.

    No I stop bf at 12 months as I find it way to draining to bf a toddler!
    I feel like a real bone head!
