Adhd

  • I know this is a depression forum (which I struggle with from time to time) but I was wondering if any of you or your kids had ADHD? My son's teacher would like him evaluated and I was wondering what you all's experiences have been with medications/behavior modification methods for kids with this problem? I hate to put the little guy on medications, but I don't want him to be less successful than he could be in school either.
  • Oh boy do I have experience in ADHD / ADD. ADHD runs thru my family like wild fire.

I would let them test him to see if he even has it before worrying about the medication.

I think the medication today are different than years ago. They have learned so much and there is a few different kinds on the market, so if one does not work they can try another. I have a few nephews and a niece on meds as well as a sister. If my child turns out to be ADHD, I will definitly put her on meds because of the difference I have seen with my family. My one neice is a different kid in school and can concentrate with the meds as where before she was distruptive and wasn't doing well with the work. What a smart cookie she really is. ADHD/ADD people are very smart its just that their brain can't sit still long enough to show it.

Good luck with the testing and please let us know how he is doing.

    HUGS !!!!
  • Don't stress too early! My daughter was refered to the doctor with ADHD and doctor said that about 95% of kids which are refered to him DO NOT have ADHD. My daughter actually did not have it and actually this doctor was the first doctor who pointed out that her unattentativeness was due to too little challenge in school. We transferred her to more challenging school and she became attentive enough.

Good luck to you, and wait till it all comes to your talk to the doctor
