I am "New to the Beach"

  • Hello All... Just had my FIRST SBD Meal (woohoo -

So, I've skimmed through the books and I've read all of the Food Lists - What I don't see is Quantity Limits? How do you know what to prepare for a meal... I'm used to measuring/weighing/monitoring (etc. each piece of food I eat... So, I'm a bit lost without knowing what I should be planning for... Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks So Much!

  • Hi Penny and Welcome to The Beach.

The great thing about this plan is the lack of the need to weigh and measure. We are to eat until satisfied.

However, most of us do try for reasonable quantities as a serving, e.g. an ounce of cheese, 3-4 ounces of meat, a half cup of cooked vegetables. I believe the Good Fat/Good Carbs Guide spells this out. Some where inthe FAQ, we have this info posted but I can't seem to track it down right now.

  • WELCOME TO SOUTH BEACH Penny!!!

The "sticky's" helped me out when I first started.
  • Hi and welcome to SBD.. I hope you enjoy the forum
  • I'm new too1
To the SBD that is. Not to 3FC. Today is day one for me on phase one. Where are you at? You said your first SBD meal, does that mean day one, phase one or did you just try your first meal out of the book??

I didn't read the book through either, it's such a slow read. Yuk.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone.

Sending lots n lots of positive thoughts and will power your way!!

  • Welcome to the beach Penny and Liz!
  • Welcome to the Beach chicks.
  • Welcome to the beach!!!
  • Welcome to the Beach! There's always room for another towel here (unlike at the seashore)!
  • Hi
    Welcome! :d
  • Welcome to Penny and Taramoon!

I [b[HIGHLY[/b[ suggest that you read the book entirely (not including the recipes, of course) before you start (which for you two would be now! ) It'll really help you understand why you're doing what you're doing and keep you from the kind of mistakes that lead to people leaving the plan because they didn't really understand it and thought it was more restrictive than it is.

Penny, in case your question hasn't been answered (though with our fabulous members, it probably has...), you want to stick to serving sizes of foods like starches (bread/rice/pasta/potatoes, etc), fruits, and nuts (see many posts for servings sizes) and be aware of the 75 calorie limit on sweet treats (non-nutritive sweet items, like popsicles, j-ello, and hard candy). Otherwise, use your best judgement. You don't want to overdo your protein, and you want to limit your good fat usage (No more than 30% of your diet from fat each day is a good benchmark/rule. You can use www.fitday.com to track fat% per day).

Hope you both find the info in the FAQ helpful and join us on the daily thread!
