Suspicious of fast loss!

  • Ok, I am deffinitly not complaining about this, but I am suspicious and thought I would ask if this happend/happens to anyone else. . .After a week of no weight loss, last week I lost 4.5 pounds and have already dropped 1 pound this week. I have consistantly been losing about a pound to 2 pounds a week and I am very suspicious about why I lost so much so quick the past week and a half. The only thing I did different last week from the week before was I worked out less and didn't eat out Friday like I usually do. This week same thing. I am not sad or mad that I have lost so much in such a short time, I just don't want to get excited about it because I feel like it's a joke. This is the 7th week I have been working out and eating better, and I am not doing low carb or anything (I know that sometimes fast weight loss can be because of water loss due to a low carb diet). I guess if it happened to any of you I wouldn't feel so paranoid. I know that it is just as likely after this fast weight loss that I may not lose anything for a while, and that's fine. As weird as it sounds, I would almost rather be wondering why I haven't lost weight, than why I am losing it so fast. It just doesn't seem like it could be real, I am scared that I will be disappointed when/if it turns out that I really didn't lose anything. Any thoughts?
  • I wouldn't worry about it too much. Depending on the day/time I weigh myself on (ie period week...extra couple pounds there!) it vaires about 5 pounds. Maybe it was just the particular time that you weighed yourself.
  • That would be a factor, but I weigh myself first thing every morning. I am not too worried about it, I am just wondering if it's normal since I have been so steady at about 2 pounds a week. I should probably just be greatful and not overanalize it!
  • Hardly anyone loses in a perfectly straight line. Lots of folks lose a few pounds, stay steady for a while then drop another bit. What with water and hormones etc .. we women have a lots of variables involved.
If you're eating well, exercising reasonably, feel well are not tired or weak. I wouldn't worry about it.
If you're worried about your exercise levels, drop in to the fitness forums and see. If you're worried about your food intake, drop in to the nutrition forums.
But honestly Stephanie, I think you've just discovered the magic of diet and exercise combined.
  • I wouldn't worry. ITs happened to me before. As long as it stays off, its good. Almost every week following a stay the same week, I lose big, well big for me, like 3 pounds or something. some times your body holds onto water or what ever especially if you are working out hard so don't be worried, be excited.
  • Thanks, I guess I just wanted to know that's normal so I can get excited without being scared it's not real! Woo hoo, I am excited!!!
  • Congrats!!!!
  • I second what everyone else is saying: everyone's body is different and congrats!
  • You're body retains more water when you work out alot, so since you've been exercising less your probably not retaining water which would contribute to the increase in weight loss you experienced. Or then again maybe you're just lucky.
I sure wish I could lose that much in one week. Good Job!
  • Well, I pretty much gained it all back. I was 177 this morning and have been struggling around that number for over a week now. Thanks for everyone's input. I think I may cut down to only weighing once a week!
  • Hey Stephanie! We're about at the same weight...we can do it!
