new at this diet and I have a question

    I am one of those anal people that obsesses with the scale, every day (fact is sometimes several times a day). i know it is not a good thing to do but I can't help myself. I actually had my son hide the scales on me for a week, I made it to day 5 without asking him to get them for me. Luckily he didn't get them. I made the full week without "weighing in"
    I am just starting the Phase 2 and the last few days I have been so incredibly thirsty. I want to drink all the time, and sometimes the thirst isn't quenched. However, I don't always grab the water bottle. I do drink several cups of coffee a day. I just reread the phase 1 list and saw that I was only supposed to have 1 caffeinated coffee a day. Well I broke that rule, I had on an average 3 mugs a day, but I use Splenda and sugar free flavored liquid creamer. This morning I switched to decaf but by early afternoon I made some regular. I was so.... exhausted today (which could also be that I am coming down with a cold, I think).
    I do a low impact aerobics 6 days a week for 30 minutes, first thing in the morning. But I don't always want to...
    About 9 months ago I became a stay at home mom. I am mother to 3 children (12, 3 1/2, and 21 months). I homeschool my oldest son and I am in the process of reading a home management book...Lord nows I need a schedule so I can be more productive.
    My questions are: is it normal to be this thirsty all the time, or could it be that I am having some intolerance (like pre diabetes or something)? I do have Aunts and Great Aunts with diabetes. The other is could my low energy level today (if not a cold) is it due to the fact that I just reintroduced sugars to my diet?

    To answer your question, I would say it's not normal to be so thirsty, but there could be lots of reasons why you are thirsty. I think if its been a week or more and you are still thirsty you should maybe speak to your doctor. It could just be as you say, your low energy level, the sugars, etc etc, but if it continues check it out with your doctor.

  • kfrench, it's worth talking to a doctor. There are lots of medical reasons for thirst and some of them are serious. However, if the doctor says you just need to drink more, your fatigue could be a result of dehydration. It can cause you to be very tired. You should be getting at least 64 oz of water (just water, not counting soda, Crystal Light, etc.) each day.

    You do need to stick to no more than 2 caffeinated beverages each day. The liquid creamer is full of sugar and bad fats. Try 1% milk and a sugar free flavored coffee syrup instead.
