Is it right?

  • sorry, I did not get any responses from anyone over in the general area so I thought I would post it in here in case you don't check over there!

Hi...I am 24 and am currently at 232.75lbs. I joined the gym near by in january and i weighed in at that time at 250lbs. I was devestated to say the least to see how much weight I had put on as the years had passed. I joined TOPS in January as well and am enjoying it very much.
I would like to think that I watch my food intake closer than what I had before however I believe I could be doing just that...only watching it. I am thinking that I seriously need to find a diet that I can live with. I am hungry all the time (partly outta boredom) but I am only always hungry for bad carbs. I love bread, bread, and more bread (bagels, donuts, english muffins) and pasta and ohh I would eat chinese food every day if I could. Anyways I wan't to continue including carbs in my diets however I just want them to be the healthy ones. (fruits, etc.)
I have only lost 20lbs in the past 9months and I seriously think that I would be able to lose much more than that or at a faster rate if my food intake wasn't mostly bad carbs. I guess I just crave them allll the time.
I don't know much about this SB diet and I would really like to know more as far as "what restrictions are there as far as food" and exactly what the process is????
From me describing my trouble zones does it sound like the SB diet would work well for me???
    Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

I was at 257 when I discovered this "diet". It is now a way of life for me. A friend had lost 40 pounds and my husband suggested I try this. I said no way, can't live w/o potatoes, corn, etc. Yes I can and I do.

I originallylost 105 pounds. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and through that and chemo put on 25 pounds. I am getting it back off.

This is a great WOE (way of eating) and this board is so wonderful. I could have never done it without these wonderful people to support and help me.

I hope you will join our support board and start on your way to healthy eating. I never thought I would crave fruits and veggies and I have tried so many new ones too. Best of luck to you.
  • Hi there! I am so sorry I missed your post on the general area. I am not sure why I did...please forgive me!

Sounds to me like you have insulin issues if you are hungry inappropriately and crave bad carbs. Sugarbusters may be just the thing for you. I can give you a synopsis of the diet, but there really is not a good substitute for reading the book. If you don't want to buy it, check your library. I read a library copy before I bought my copy.

Basically, you avoid added sugars, and the empty carbs. Whites so to speak. So, the no no list includes: white sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes, corn, beets, watermelon and pineapple. These foods all raise insulin levels significantly and quickly. What is allowed includes whole grains, 100% whole wheat breads, lean meats, vegetables, sweet potatoes, most fruits. Its best to limit your starches to three a day. This would include peas, brown rice, whole grain breads... Its amazing how once you really get off the empty carb stuff and sugar, how the cravings go away. It does take a few days, or in some cases almost a week, but you have to stick it out. If you cave, you are back to square one in the cravings department. The weekly support thread is a good place to ask questions...that is where most of the SBers check in daily, and will see any posts you make there. I hope you decide to join us. My doctor recommends Sugarbusters, and says its the healthiest diet out there...I agree! Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in anyway.
  • on the hunt
Ok so I have decided that this really could be a good way to change my way of eating to follow Sugar Busters. I know that it is gonna be very hard for me to get past the cravings but it should get easier over time...I hope!
Anyways so I went to go buy the book this weekend and I checked at McNally Robinson, Chapters, and 3 other used book stores and they did not have it at any of them. They did offer to order it in however it will take 2 weeks to get it.
I think I am gonna hunt around again today and see if I can find it anywhere and if not then I might just have to go check it out from the library for the time being.
Well I can't way to start this...I am sure that I will have more questions as I start reading the book and so forth so for now thank you for responding to my post and I will be talking with you soon.
