    Let me tell you a little about myself, My name is Amy, I am 33 years old, I live in Northcentral Ohio. I have 3 beautiful kids and a wonderful husband, I am a stay at home mom looking for a job now, it is time to go back, the kids are back in school (2nd and 3rd grade), all but 1 (9 month old), I was blessed w/ being able to stay home with the first 2 and now for sanity reasons and because kids are expensive, I am looking for work.

    I am so glad I found the SB plan, I have been following Atkins since about June and have lost about 22 lbs from that, but since the birth of my 3rd baby in Dec, I have lost 40 lbs, to me that is not that much considering I still weigh 205. I walk and am just thinking about doing some resistence training as well as walking, I sometimes manage to get in 3-5 miles per day, lately it has been more like ZERO, I have gotten very lazy the last week or so, no energy since TOM visited me. I do feel better when I do low carb, my energy level is better (except for this past week), face is clearer and I have lost some weight, but I can't help but shake this feeling of eating to much grease. It is MY opinion of MY diet that I have been eating, things like 1/2 lb of bacon w/ cabbage fried in the grease....2 full fat hamburger patties things like that.. CANT BE ALL THAT GOOD FOR YOU ,If I would have went by the book I would have probably been ok, but none the less I still lost weight. I keep telling myself and my family, if bacon grease gets that hard in the pan you fried it in after it cools, is it doing that to your arteries?????????? Grease is a hard thing to get out of a frying pan anyhow

    Anyhow I feel all fuzzy about this way of eating now, seems like a much more healthier alternative, even if my weightloss does go slower, it is all worth it.
    I still can't find the actual SB book, I do have the good fats/ good carb book, but can't seem to find the other book. I have even been to our library looking for it, I guess I could go out of town, but the closest place that would have one is about 25 miles away, and at $3.00 a gallon of gas, I hate to do that just for the book.

    Ok enough rambling. Sorry so long, those of you with kids, please see my next post.. Thanks in advance.

  • Amy, glad to have you here! Yes, this is a great plan...and one that I think you'll continue to feel "fuzzy" about!

    Honestly, though, you need to read the book before you start. Try ordering it from Amazon if you can't find it elsewhere. Perhaps your local library could interlibrary loan it from one that has it? If you decide to order from Amazon, click on the link in the sticky here (Order from Amazon and Help the Chicks) to give part of the purchase price back to the chicks.

    You'll find tons of info in the FAQ and great recipes in the recipe forum. Hope you'll join us in the daily thread...it's the one with the name of the week in the title!

  • Welcome to the Beach! Beachgal is right, you really should read the book in order to understand the concept behind the plan. It's easier to do something if you understand why you are doing it. These days, the shipping on one book is probably less than the gas to go 25 miles and back again! Or order a few other things (maybe get an early start on holiday shopping?) and get the free shipping. I'm sure you would greatly benefit by reading it through before getting started!

    Also, be sure to check out the FAQ forum and the recipe forum, as they will be a big help to you. Also, feel free to join in on the daily chat threads any time you feel like it!

    Might want to try checking on ebay...you can get a deal on the book AND have it delivered right to your door. I definitely recommend reading it...helps to make things *click*. Good luck!

  • Hello! I would also reccomend Ebay. I found a book I wanted on Amazon for 15.00 plus shipping...so I looked for it on ebay and bought it for a total of $5.00!!! Shipping included!!
  • Amazon also sells used books for much less, although these don't qualify for the free shipping. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. I dislike the idea of using Paypal, so I stick with Amazon. I've always had good service from them, and I've been shopping at Amazon.com since 1999.
  • Welcome. I would also highly recommend reading the book. Somebody posted before that you can purchase the book on e-bay e-books. I'm not really familiar with it but it's probably worth a shot. Good luck to you.
  • personally i found the good fats/ good carb book about 10 times more useful than the original book. i also felt like i got more information from this forum than the book. it's still a good idea to read the book and if you could get it at the library, that would be perfect. Wal-mart usually has the book as well as one you already have in paper back. the book has too many pages of recipes i have no interest in, but the recipes here are perfect and what real people eat.

    i have a friend who claims to be on the SB diet but never read the book and started with P2. it is an improvement over how he was eating before, but after you read the book you understand why P1 is so important.
