edema(swollen feet and ankles)

  • I have horrible swollen feet and ankles I have been checked by the doctors and they say it's my weight and the heat. It's horrible they've given me water pills and they don't work. Anyone else have this problem any suggestions or tips to help?
  • I dont know what your weight is now.
When I was over 300 pounds I would get swollen legs and feet and just getting out for the walks and drinking alot of water in the process. After the weight loss my feet have not been swollen and I dont have the tightness in my legs. I can fit back into my shoes that I couldnt wear because my feet were so swollen. I cut back on the salt intake also.
Make sure you are checking with your doctor on your blood pressure to make sure your alright.
  • i have the same problem. lasix helps and walking. don't alot of saltbecaus it retains water. glen
  • I have a chronic problem with edema. I notice that the more whole foods and less processed food that I eat the better my edema seems to get!!!
I have mild kidney disease, so when I tried Lasix my edema got worse!! Drink plenty of fluids, even though that seems to be backward for the problem, but it does help flush your system out!!
also watch things that you wouldn't think have sodium in them... Some are loaded with sodium..
Check package labels and see what percentage of sodium it contains!!
Put away your salt shaker!!! You would be surprised how fast a "pinch of salt" adds up!!!
Watch sodas, "lite drinks", frozen dinners (even if they are calorie friendly), low cal products, lunch meat (even if it is low fat) and cheeses!!
Good luck, it can be so painful to have edema!!! I hope it gets better quickly!!!
  • I have a skin condition on my lower legs which causes severe edema. I use support hose. These are medical support hose not the kind you can buy at regular stores. The technical term for this type is compression hose or stockings. Do a search on the internet and you'll find them. They come in varying degrees of compression. (I need 20-30 mmHg) There's 8 mmHg & 8-15 mmHg for starters. Ask you doctor if compression hose would work.
