Recipies - in European measures!

  • Hi all,

I noticed that many recipies in this forum refer to either U.S. measures or to ingredients that are only avaiable in the U.S.

Therefore, I thought that I'd give a try with some recipies with measures in the metric system, so we Europeans don't have to bring the calculator in the kitchen

If someone can convert already posted recipies to metric measures, please do post it here (as a reply). If possible, please write the Fat Energy Percentage and/or WW points.

Well, um, here's the first recipe:

    Stirfried turkey

    Fat Energy Percentage: approx. 20%-25%

    You need:

200 g of fresh shredded turkey breast (without the skin)
400 g of chopped veggies (whatever you like. Personally, I like to buy a so-called "Wok Mix" at my greengrocer's with baby corn, sweet peas, carrots, onions, bamboo sprouts and Chinese mushrooms)
1 tablespoon of lemon juice or dry white wine
a wee bit of wok-suitable oil (olive, peanut or sesame oil)

    ---

Before you start, pour the lemon juice or the white wine over the meat and let it stand for 5-10 minutes. This will tenderize the meat and keep it yummy and juicy no matter how long you cook it... (Hint: It's easy if you have one of them small oil spray pumps.)

Then heat up a medium-sized wok (or a deep pan) and stirfry the meat until it starts getting some colour. Eventually season the meat with curry and/or soy sauce.

Turn down the heat (to about medium) and pour the veggies in.
Fry the veggies for 5-10 minutes (depending on whether the veggies are frozen or not). Stir now and then.

Serve with boiled rice or noodles.

    Enjoy!

  • Second recipe: How to de-fat a TV dinner
Ever tried to buy a frozen chicken meal in a foil tray and discover that it litterarely DROWNS in fat? Here's a hint:

While the chicken is still frozen (and you're waiting for the oven to get hot enough, anyway ) then carefully chip off the frozen gravy with a knife and replace it with a sauce containing this:

    approx. 3 dl mashed tomatoes
    a whole lotta garlic
    3-4 chopped spring onions
1 teaspoon of soy or tamari sauce
    seasoning: oregano, basil and paisley

Cook the chicken according to the instruction on the package, and voilá! Your skinny friends/family will think that you prepared everything from scratch!

And best of all: You have reduced the Fat Energy Percentage from 70% to approx. 40%. If you are having some rice or salad on the side, the whole meal will have a total Fat Energy Percentage of 25-30%!

    Enjoy,
