Had a decent weekend. Mom is progressing. I may need to spend less time in the sun. Got to come home on Saturday night which was nice and life here is good.

Had a fairly decent weekend myself. Got to test my new washer and I'm pleased with how well it runs. It's so quiet compared to my old one! Went to my SIL's on Friday evening--grilled steaks/shrimp and had a few gin & tonics and capped off the evening with a "cosmopolitan". All in all we had a nice time. Saturday was quiet and yesterday we went to a family reunion. Did stay on track with my eating with the exception of a little snacking last evening. Did get some walking in on Sunday and got a short walk in today as well.

Temps/humidity are supposed to start climbing this afternoon so the comfortable weather was short-lived.

Well, went to WI last night and was down 1 1/2#. I've really been trying to watch my intake, but I've gotten a "salt tooth" lately. Is that a word a la "sweet tooth." Golfed with DH on Friday, saw a play "London Suite" on Saturday and went to a get together with friends on Sunday. It was a good weekend.

lala, I hope you met that deadline.

Melissa, I haven't heard of a Cosmopolitan in ages. They were big in the 70's. I'm glad you're getting your walking in.

Ladies, now for a serious discussion. I know 3 women in their 40's who have recently been diagnosed with cancer: 2 with breast cancer and 1 with melanoma. Please know your bodies and go to the doctor. This is so scary.

Lisa: Congrats on your loss!! I've been really trying to watch my intake as well and am hoping for a loss this week. I'm not getting as much walking in as I'd like but some is better than none.

I do take notice of what/how my body is doing because you just never know. It's scary to think that women my age are being diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.

It's another hot/humid day here--this seems to be the trend this summer. We get a couple of cool days as a teaser and then back to the steamy weather. I'll be glad when Fall arrives!

Back to moderate saneness today, except that I have to clear out my office for new office furniture being delivered, so it looks really bad in here. I need the flylady now.

Lisa -- congrats on your loss and yes, I need to be more careful with the sun. This year I have not intentionally achieved a nutty brown tan that I should not have. As for the breast cancer screening. Yup, I'm with that. Four months until my next ultrasound/mammogram and I'm trying to remember self screening is important.

Salt I can also understand.

Melissa -- whose side of the family did you reunite with? I had a gin and tonic yesterday with diet tonic. It is not recommended. I did really well yesterday until DP unveiled the evil Bingham Hills Tumbleweed cheese to try. Yum is beyond what I tasted.

Anyhoo, hope everyone is doing well. I need to run for a teleconference. I may be back.

Eat well, taste your food, and watch those portions.

Hi Ladies,

Nothing very exciting going on here. The weather is still hot and humid but Fall is in site now that the Back to School Ads are out in full force! Went to the dentist this morning for the bi-annual cleaning and got a clean bill of dental health. This afternoon I'm off to see the orthodontist with Lauren. She is hoping the braces will be coming off soon.

Lala I finished reading the Devil Wears Prada and have just started Angels and Demons (Dan Brown, prequel to the DaVinci Code). So far I am enjoying it. What are you reading these days. Hope you enjoy your new office furniture. and good luck with the teleconference.

Melissa I tried the Bacardi Breeze rum this weekend, I bought the lemon/lime and having been mixing it with diet 7 Up...not bad. I think the TV show Sex and the City revived the Cosmopolitan.

Lisa thanks for the reminder regarding the breast exams. I have been going for a mammo every year since I turned 39. I always schedule them the first week of October which is when my son's birthday is as a reminder.

Well ladies it's almost 1:00 and my stomach is telling me it's time for lunch. I didn't bring anything today so I'll have to see what's in the Cafe. Hope you all have a great day and I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Hi, Happy Wednesday. I took a friend to an early-morning surgery (out-patient) this morning, so that's why I'm writing so early in the morning (yawn!) Get this--this is her fifth foot surgery for nerve problems. The doctor told her it's from wearing high heels with pointy toes for so many years. She said the pain is so bad sometimes she wishes he would just cut off some of her toes!! The things we women do to ourselves.

Today's my annual exam with GYN. I hope everything is all right. I'll get my mammo scheduled today, too.

Pam, I think I'll read Devil Wears Prada. I just finished Janet Evanovich's latest--Eleven on Top. It was hysterical. I just love her Stephanie Plum books. I still need to find Twelve Times Blessed.

lala, how's the new furniture? That's always nice. At my company, we keep getting the same old stuff recycled. I have to laugh sometimes when I go in the conference rooms. Remember back in the 70's when burnt orange was in??? The chairs are all burnt orange or the rooms have that dark paneling (not the pretty kind).

I need to try that Bacardi Breeze--sounds refreshing.

I've never watched Sex and the City, so I didn't know that about the Cosmopolitans.

Do any of you read the magazine, More? I really enjoy it. It's for women over 40 years of age and it is fun to read. The models are like us, not the waif-like creatures we see in fashion mags today.

Another hot one here today with temps holding at 89...t'storms are supposed to arrive later on to bring some relief. The forecasters are saying tomorrow is going to be cooler so I'm planning on bringing my walking shoes to work so I can take advantage. I've been going out for "strolls" this past week just so I get some more movement in.

Lala: I don't like diet tonic so I had regular--tastes much better and there are some things that just taste better with the "real" McCoy We reunited with my mother-in-law's family. It seemed so much smaller than ones in previous years.

Pam: I need to get another bottle of the Bacardi--I usually mix it with light cranberry juice...yum. I never really watched Sex and the City until I went to FL to visit my GF...it's actually pretty good. Not at all what I expected or thought it was about.

Lisa: I'm scheduled for my mammogram in September--I really try to remember to do my self-exams but forget. It's something that I need to work on. I do try to keep in tune with what's going on in my body. Thanks for the reminders My mom had trouble with her calves a while back and the doctor said it was from wearing the really high heels when she was younger...all the more reason to not wear stilletos! Me, I go for comfort.

Well I went to my meeting at noon and was a little disappointed with the scale. I was down .8 and I should be happy with that but in all honesty I was expecting more since I have been really, really good with portion (weighing/measuring), getting my water, milk, etc. all in the past 2 weeks. *sigh* I know it'll show up at the scale but it was a little deflating. I'm not going to let it hinder my upcoming week. Just needed to "whine" a little and get it off my chest.

Has anyone read the magazine, "Looking Good Now"? I bought it and there's quite a bit of info in it and not a lot of advertising. I'll have to check out the More magazine, Lisa. I'm always up for something new and inspirational.

Our office is still a disaster area. They are scheduled to start moving furniture in around 2:30. We have one more desk to move and our computers to take down.

I'll be spending the afternoon looking for a new office chair and working from home.

Lisa -- We have burgundy chairs and a really big table in the closest conference room that will soon be turned into offices as we add more and more people to our group.

We bought the biggest office furniture we possibly could so they couldn't add another person to our office. Smart thinking, eh?

You are a very nice person to take your friend to her surgery.

Melissa -- I can understand your frustration with the scale. As for the weather, I hope it breaks soon. Its lovely and cool here today, grey and spitting, but it will get up to 72 today, so I can't complain.

I had to laugh because I thought I should be down so much more, blah, blah, blah and then I saw my weigh-in card from last August--same weight!! I guess I just keep going up and down. I haven't heard of that mag; need to check it out.

Lisa I love More magazine! A friend of mine gave me a subscription when I turned 40 and I've been renewing it ever since. I actually gave a subscription to my sister when she turned 40. I love the stories, so much useful information. One of my favorite articles is the one showing 3 different women wearing 3 trendy looks and their comments about the clothes.
Pointy toed high healed shoes are not for me. I almost always wear a 2 inch pump or flats. I hope you get a chance to read the Devil Wears Prada it was very funny/strange. I also think you would like Twelve Times Blessed, if you can't find it I would be happy to mail you my paperback.

Melissa thanks for the tip on the cranberry juice. I have some at home and think I'll give it a try tonight. I'm going to look for the magazine Looking Good Now. Actually the only magazines I have been reading regularly lately are More and Self. Isn't this weather awful, so hot and humid.

Lala I'll definitely look up Roberta Isleib sounds interesting. Smart thinking with the furniture How do you feel after the run? Were you a runner before or is this something new you are taking up? It's something I would like to do but I'm not sure how my back would tolerate it.

Hello, Ladies! Wow, it feels so good to be back . Just thought I'd stop by to say "Hi", and was surprised to see that I haven't visited this site in two years. I recognize some familiar faces - so glad to see Lala, Melissa and Domina. A big "Hello" to everybody else as well.

The last few years have been busy: new job (love it), same DH (20-yr. anniversary next month), kids are older (DS staring high school, DD starting middle school), I'm older , and my younger brother (not yet 30 yrs old) is really struggling with testicular cancer.

Over the past couple of years my weight has slowly crept up - I'm sad to say that I am quite a bit over my WW goal weight. Have been thinking of going back to WW meetings to get it back under control, so decided to stop by and see if any of my old friends still hang out here.

Just seeing your posts has brightened my day. Hope you are all having a lovely week. Take care,

AustinGal--welcome back. You know that you can drop by any time. Sorry about the weight gain--you can do it again. Meetings have always helped me. They're great motivation. I went to my monthly weigh-in the other night and saw some old friends. It's a struggle for many people. Sorry about your brother's cancer--it seems there's more of that type all the time.

I have read more magazine. I have to say I have not really come to grips with the fact that I fit the MORE demographic than GLAMOUR. I think I fit Martha Stewart Living better. It does have good things and once in a while someone leaves a copy at the gym.

Furniture: Yikes. I think they ordered the wrong stuff, or I should say, our somewhat emphemeral graduate student who shows up during the summer, is going to be hosed for space. Someone (not I) did a crap job of measuring the room. DP went over last night on her way out and moved some stuff, but I think we're going to have to make some big changes.

We just finished "dive from clausen's pier" for bookgroup. I have to say my reaction to this book would be much different if I was 20. I did like parts of it.

Well, off to the gym for a walk/run and back to work for a long day of well, I don't know.

Hey Austingal!!! Great to hear from you!! Congrats on the new job! DH and I will be celebrating 23 years next month and DS #2 is starting high school at the end of the month. Time sure flies! Get yourself to a meeting for some motivation--it'll really help to get you back on track and please join us here. I still attend meetings just to keep myself in check. I hope your brother does okay.

Lisa: I'm going to have to check out More magazine. I'll have to check my WI booklet from last year at this time to see where I'm at in relation to that. I know that summer is usually a hard time for me (heat/humidity) to keep my weight down and this summer has been unusually hot so I haven't been out walking as much.

Pam: The humidity was supposed to be more bearable today but it sure doesn't feel any different. We had a few showers last evening but not enough. I'm tired of this!

Lala: Good luck with the furniture situation! I'm hoping to get a walk in over the lunch hour but we'll see how that goes. The temps aren't all that cool to be heading out for any major walk.
