Hello Folks!

  • I've been lurking for awhile now & thought that I should say "hi". I have a LOTTT of weight to lose and thought this looked like a great place to join. I've lost weight before on an endless parade of diets, but have never successfully kept it off. I've noticed about all of the people that I've known who've lost a lot of weight is that they EXERCISED regularly and ALOT. So I'm determined that I am going to exercise this time around, since I've never been able to stick to regular exercise before.

I am determined to be successful this time.. My family has lots of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and type II diabetes. My blood sugar & blood pressure at my last visit was borderline so I really want to get some weight off. I also have a knee problem that the doctor said can only be solved with surgery or weight loss. The only thing that scares me more than doctors is surgery & hospitals I'd like to get down to a normal weight for my height, but honestly, at this point, I'm just going to focus on one day at a time.
  • Sounds awesome, baby steps

  • Hi BabySteps! Yes, exercise is soooo crucial, and I promise it will do wonders for your body and weight loss efforts. You've got the right idea, one day at a time. Good luck and welcome!

  • Hi, TBS, and welcome!

It's really great to have you here. Listen to anything Beverly (boibaby) says -- not only is she an absolutely lovely person, she's lost -- and kept off -- a BUTTload of weight, so she knows whereof she speaks!

I can tell you that before I found out I had cancer last year, I'd worked hard to lose about 80 pounds in 8 months, and for me, exercise was the hardest part to stick with. I knew in my head that I would never be able to get the body and overall good health I wanted -- and keep the weight off -- without regular, daily, exercise. I did it, and a lot of it, but I didn't grow to love it.......until this year. I think the thing that's critical to making it something you enjoy is REGULARITY. Of course it's got to be something you don't hate doing, but truly, for me, it's like anything else -- you build a habit. With time, you'll find yourself getting to a point where you're spending enough time doing it in one session to release endorphins -- and that really gives you a sense of pleasure and accomplishment while you're doing it, and gets you coming back for more. This time around, I find myself hungering for it, believe it or not!

I think you're doing this for all the right reasons, and you clearly know not only what you need to do, but how you need to do it. We're here for you. There are some different challenges available -- that are totally flexible. You set your own goals and levels, and then hold yourself to them. Also, there are a couple of threads available that help with accountability, for those that need or want it. The exercise thread might be good for you, because there you can post simply your ***-moving ( ) and get not only positive feedback, but the satisfaction of announcing what you've done. Another good option is the Journal Buddy accountability thread, where people post all their daily eats (and sometimes exercise.)

We're here for you....and if you ever need any help or have any questions, just put them out there! You'll find a world of help and support here.
  • Welcome! I'm so glad to see more lurkers coming out of the shadows!

One day at a time sounds like a great plan!
