Newbie who needs to lose weight

  • I posted here a few months ago but never followed up. In the meantime, I've gained more weight. I should have known because my clothes have been getting tighter. But I denied the obvious.

I went for a doctor's appt recently and they weighed me. Ugh.

I got on the scale. The nurse started me at 150 and pushed the bar back back back. Finally, it said 168.

Me: You got to be kidding.

She: No. It's accurate. I weigh myself on it.

    Me: I should lose weight.

    She: Probably

So, I'm 22 and the weight has been creeping up on me all through college.
  • I am having the exact problem...I went to the doctor and weighed in at 160.5 lbs. I was horrified as I had been thirty pounds lighter at this same time last year. I want some support in this journey. My goal is to get myself down those thirty pounds in the next few months. I want to do it the healthy way. Eating better, exercising more. I'd always asked the doctor not to tell me what I weighed, if I liked how I looked what did it matter??? Well, it matters now as I don't like the way I look. Its nice to know that someone else had the doctor's office freak out! It's nice to not be alone. Thanks for your post!
  • Thanks for the response, Notthe!

I also want to lose this weight in a healthy way and I know that means eating less junk and exercising more. I'm not sure yet whether I am going to follow a particular diet.
  • Hi, this is actually my first post, as I just graduated college a month ago. I'm also in the same weight range, at about 166lbs as of graduation day. I came home and began exercising and attempting to eat healthy, but after 4 years of cafeteria food and the college drinking lifestyle, I'm finding it hard to lose the weight.

I started a 8 week chart for myself, and I'm charting all the exercise that I have been doing. So far it's a mix of '8 minute Abs,' walking, and stretch band exercises for toning. I've been doing this for just over 2 weeks and I've lost 5 pounds. Nothing too crazy, but for the first time in my life I've stuck to something longer than a week.

So I hope to keep on motivating and perhaps we can motivate one another!! It's always easier with a friend. Good luck!!

  • Hey! I think the chart is a great idea...I've been keeping food log. In hopes that I can shame myself into passing up all the junk that I like to eat. I've added a lot more fruits and vegetables and have been sticking with my exercise (running/walking & weights) for about a week and a half now. I'm feeling better and can feel my legs and arms starting to firm up. I have been afraid to step on that scale though...I don't think I can bear another glimpse of that number! Lets keep supporting each other...I know we can do this!
  • I've also been trying to eat more fruits and veggies. I went to the grocery store today and picked up a bag of baby carrots and a few apples.

I like the chart idea too!

Notthe, what are you using for weights? What are you doing with them?
