What is the best diet in your opion.

  • I'm just starting to diet of the recent birth of my son of feb 16 2005 and i'm trying to find a good way to go about it
  • Congratulatons! We have a lot of new mothers around here, so I hope you'll feel at home I'm a new grandmother!

All of the diets do work, if you stick with them. So the important thing is to find one that fits your personal tastes and lifestyle, because this is the one you will stick with.

We did a survey over over 4,000 dieters not too long ago, to try to figure out the best diet plan. For those that followed a specific diet, Weight Watchers came in first, followed by the South Beach Diet. Atkins was harder to stick to long term, so if you have a lot of weight to lose, you might choose something more flexible, like WW.

However, most of the people that lost weight and were happy with their progress actually didn't follow one of the popular diet plans, but just cut back portions or counted calories, and exercised.
  • I think all healthy plans work sooner or later, but IMO, the best way to start is to cut out all refined sugar and white flour products! It makes everything easier.

    Just an opinion.
  • For me calorie counting works best. Weight Watchers point system is very similar to counting calories. I make healthy eating choices 98% of the time-cutting out sugar, eating lean protein, fruits, veggies, whole grains instead of refined, etc. but since there is no food that is "forbidden" (plans like Atkins, South Beach, SugarBusters, Somersizing, etc. all have foods that you are NOT allowed) it works better for me. It means that I can have a small piece of chocolate when I have pms, or that I can indulge in a little bit of this or that at a holiday gathering, and not go "off" my eating plan. I just have to limit the occasional treat now and then to a small serving, and make sure to stay in my calorie range the rest of the day.
