Introducing Myself

  • Hi All,

I've been lurking for a few weeks, ever since I found this terrific site! I figured it's about time I introduce myself.

I'm almost 52 years old and 63 inches tall. I've struggled with being overweight ever since I hit puberty. On April 1, 2005, I decided to make some lifestyle changes in order to feel better and be healthier. I weighed 200 pounds that day and so far I lost 6 pounds in April and 6 pounds in May. I'm hoping to lose 6 pounds a month until I'm out of the BMI category of obese (170 and lower). After that, I hope to lose 4 to 5 pounds a month.

I have no idea what my ultimate "goal" is. I know that the BMI category of "average" for my height ranges from 141 down to 105. The lowest I remember weighing is around 130, so after I get there, I'll see what happens.

I never thought of this as being "on a diet" since that implies a temporary situation that ends at some point (getting into a dress for a wedding, going to a reunion, etc.) whereas I feel I've made what I hope are permanent lifestyle changes in eating and keeping active.

I look forward to participating in various topics and weighing in with you on a weekly basis.

Oh yes, I'm originally from Maine (born there, lived there until last year). Living in central Massachusetts now. Hence my user name.

    Mary
