WW and quitting smoking???

  • Well the time has come. I said once I hit 20lbs off I would curb the other monkey on my back. After WI this week that should be what I need to do as I only had .8 to go after last week.

Anybody else out there trying to do this? I am not worried about snacking as I feel like I have that under control but I am deathly afraid my metabolism is going to take a nosedive and go into hibernation mode.

I guess I will try to keep up my walking and see how things go.

    any suggestions from anyone???

Other than trying to get in alot more activity - I would love to do alot more in the extra activity dept but a ft job, a disabled DD, trying to keep a house in order, and a business I help my DH run cut into my time considerably.

    Thanks

  • Quitting smoking is the most important thing that you could do right now. It is FAR more important than a couple of pounds of weight gain. Do what you need to do to quit smoking. You can do it!
  • I am going to give it a shot. I quit twice before for a year and a half both times. As long as my body doesn't decide to shut down I will be ok. I think now is a good time to quit as I am already doing something to combat the weight gain whereas if I leave it until I do get down to goal if I put on a bit of weight I think I will be even more frustrated.
I will just have to keep active and be very careful that I don't start snacking!!!
    Thanks

  • The last time I did WW and was really focused on myself. I ended up quitting smoking too. It came naturally. I am hoping I can do the same this time too. THe last time it was around the 30lbs loss that I just went cold turkey on the smoking. One of the things I did is when I wanted to smoke..I would wait..drink a big glass of cold water...then decide if I wanted to smoke. I also start by cutting back...I could be up to a 2 pack a day smoker...currently I am about 1/2 pack a day and most of that is in the morning when I get up. I have to keep ice cold water in the fridge so I can have that instead of coffee in the mornings. My biggest challenge is my dh smokes. If I could get him to quit..it would be so much easier for me..but I doubt that will happen!

Don't stress about quitting..the more you exercise the less you want to smoke.

  • Well quit on Monday and not so bad so far. Have been using the patch when I remember to put it on in the AM Forgot yesterday and again today. By lunch yesterday I was a little edgey.
I just think it will be easier to control the eating part of quitting smoking when I am already trying to lose this weight. I thought of waiting until I hit goal but I think a person might be more inclined to eat too much. I think it would be easy to get into the "oh one or two of those won't hurt because I am at goal" and then get carried away.
DH is quitting at the same time so DD will ship us away if we get too bad!!!LOL
  • Way to go on the quit! I will be rooting for you!
