EDiets?

  • has anyone here ever used ediets.com? if so what do you think of it? I'm thinking of spending my money on it but I want to hear from someone who has before!
  • I just de-joined. They have lots of plans -- which is a good thing. And lots of information and support. I had two major gripes. First, the meal plans seemed put together by a random spin of the wheel. One day my plan had tuna for breakfast, tuna for lunch, and tuna for dinner. Often, you'd have chicken/chicken and beef/beef. You don't have to follow the meal plans, but since that's a feature, I think they could be done with more care. Also, you can choose to exclude foods, like meat, dairy, soy, egg substitutes. Great! but I got meals wiith soy in them even though I excluded it. And even though I did NOT exclude salt-free, everything was "reduced salr" or "no sodium."

Secondly, the message boards. This is just a matter of taste, but I like these boards much better! The Ediets boards I saw were all little clubs, like chat clubs. We have those here too, but there seems to be more of an emphasis on asking questions and general support.

I went back to Weight Watchers
  • ughhh i just signed up and the website is screwed up or something...it keeps taking me back to the same page...i keep filling out the diet info and it wont go through.
  • I got 12 weeks for free at the begining of the year with the Discovery health weight loss challenge.

I didn't really like it. It was slow and I did it at work with DSL. I couldn't imagine doing it with a dial-up connection. I like to cook just a few times a week and have leftovers the rest of the time. I'm too busy to be cooking every single meal.

I did print out each weeks menus thinking that I'd do it eventually, but I still have them in a notebook somewhere waiting patiently.

It gives you a complete meal plan for the week, with a shopping list. You can change the menus if you like, but you have to search all the entrees to find something you want. The recipes and shopping list is for 1 person, so you have to figure out what you need if you are feeding more then 1. You can scale up your recipes to serve more, but that's just another time consuming step.

I think 3fatchicks forum is much better then the ediest message boards. Maybe it's because I've been using it longer.

    edited to add:
I forgot to mention that they charge for everything. The menus and guest forum is all you get for the basic amount, then you have to pay more to get more support.

On the plus side, their customer support people on the phone are very good.

  • blah i kind of regret signing up now! and if i cancel before 3 mos then they charge $25! So I might as well keep it for $11 a month until the 3 mos is up...but NONE of the meals sounded appealing to me...just went to the store and had to wing it...i wish i could have gotten a trial membership or something first
  • I signed up with ediets a few months ago not realizing that they charge for every little thing. I read all documentation before I signed up and never came across anything about extra charges.

To my surprise, I wasn't paying 2.99/week for everything but almost $36 a month! Plus I got billed twice. I was furious when I looked at my bank statement and called ediets to fuss about it. They did refund the duplicate charge right away, and they explained that they charge extra for all the other features. I went ahead and paid the $25 cancellation fee to avoid getting charged $36 for the next two months. I also did not like their support forums. It's better here.
  • i just joined , then found out about all the fee's , as soon as the 3 months is up, i'm going to de join my self, so anyone thinking of joining, "don't)

    just my 2 cents
  • I just joined ediets one week ago doing the bill phillips eating for life plan. I don't like it because you have to PAY for the message boards (which I didn't), plus they don't really give you a whole lot of food choices.

I'm with you....after my 3 months is up I plan to dejoin. In the meantime, I plan on changing my plan on the site as many times as I want so that I get the gist of all the plans while I have to pay for them. That way maybe I won't get tempted to come back since I'll know what all the plans are like.
