The Benefits to Being on the Beach in the Boonies

  • First of all, I can't tell you all how much fun I had coming up with that title! I know, I know......

Just wanted to let you all know that I went down to my farmers market this afternoon on a day out with the girls shopping and found some excellent yogurt cheese AND some whole wheat cracker sticks with NO white flour, NO hydrogenated oils, and flax seed. How cool is that?

Tomorrow morning I hit the local farmers market (less than 1/4 mile from my home) for some fresh veggies for our picnic.

Even the Amish will market what sells, and you know that Amish cooking is pretty close to homecooked.

Also today, first day of TOM HOWEVER, I did dare to try on a size 12 this morning (I didn't know it was TOM til this afternoon) and behold, THEY FIT!

Just wanted you to know that I'm happy on the beach out here in the boonies!
  • So are you in HillBilly Heaven?
Couldn't resist that title either! Congrats on the size 12!!! That's my current size also, but I really would love to be a 6. That is the ultimate goal.

I live in NY, in Albany. I grew up in Bridgewater on Route 20, anywhere near you!!

I love farmer's markets and Amish goodies! Truly that is one of the pleasures of summer. And I think summer is returning. I saw the sun today and it made me feel so much better!
    SANDI
  • Hey Sandi,

I live in Woodhull technically, VERY tiny town known for it's cheese. Near Corning, but I come up around Albany to St. Rose college to see old friends frequently. Beachgal is a New Yorker too!
  • Hey Sarah!

I checked out your blog and some of the quiz links. I discovered I have a red aura and am 100% democrat with green/anarchist/socialist leanings!

I hope you are getting the rest you need to feel better and fight the mono.

    Sandi
  • Sarah, love the title.
I'm glad you've got all that stuff nearby!! That's wonderful!

I'm lucky living in Centretown in Ottawa. We have a fantastic market (the Byward Market) in lowertown where the farmers sell produce every summer. http://www.byward-market.com/welcome.php?lang=en And there are some great cheese shops, etc there, too!
I know there are some areas where it's really difficult to get fresh/organic/etc stuff. Sounds like the Boonie Girl and the City Girl are blessed.

I haven't been to an Amish market since I was a child. That was somewhere in the States... I wonder where...
Ruth, do we HAVE Amish up here?

And Sarah, congratulations on the size 12, sweetie!! You must feel fabulous!!!
  • Of course we do, Ellis! we have some near here at Charleston Lake and there are lots of them north of Stratford towards the Bruce. No market near here but you can buy stuff if you know the right people.
My market is out behind the barn starting soon - this week we have rhubarb, green onions and asparagus.
  • Ruth. Our local farm has a phone number you can call to hear a recording of what they have available.

We have a nice farmer's market here in town. I love getting HUGE bunches of basil for $2. There's also an amazing market in Ithaca, but then you can find anything there.

Sounds yummy, Adia! Congrats on the 12!
  • Congrats on size 12!!

I love going to the farmer's market.
