Grapefruit going bad???

  • Hey, just a quick question...
I bought a grapefruit a few days ago while grocery shopping, and forgot about it. But then I wanted to eat some (i.e. already ate all of the frutis that I bought that I really like ), and it hit me that maybe a grapefuit could go bad. I never had fruit just sitting around, and I know that it goes bad eveuentally...but is there like a way it is supposed to look or something? lol, I know this sounds waaaaay dumb, but no one I know seems to have any idea about grapefruit!
Oh, and while I am on the topic about food going bad- I bought a mango one day after trying it at a party, and so I cut the thing up, and then noticed a very....just yucky smell that I know was not there when I tried it. I was afraid to try it with the yucky smell, so I threw it away. Is there a way to buy mangos? I don't even know what a mango should look like...lol. I think the bad mango experience is why I am paranoid about my grapefruit.
    Thanks for the help!
  • Squeak: Rgarding Grapefruits, you can tell immediately if a grapfruit has gone bad. Any number of things can happen, it can get moldy...which is an obvious sign. Or it can start to dry out like an old orange and then the only problem is that it's not as juicy. Slice the grapefruit open and if it's icky in these ways, toss it, but if its juicy and not moldy, sprinkle a tiny bit of Splenda on top and have at it!! It's one of those things that if it doesn't look bad or taste bad (which most people think a grapefruit tastes bad even when its the creme of the crop!), then it's good. I, for one, love grapefruits and have a half of one almost every morning....straight up, no sugar.

    Enjoy!!
