  • HI
Low carb just isnt for me..
I did some reviewing of my eating patterns and such..
and i found i do eat too many carbs..

I going to try the weight watchers point system..
If i know how much i can eat.. and i keep track of what i eat..
then i wont OVER EAT. lol

I had all the books and such, so all i had to do was start following the plan again, i lose 25 lbs on it about 11 years ago..
Then i gave up caring for some reason, then i was diag with pcos.. and
im thinking with spring here im going to try again.

If anyone else is following WW plans.. would love tohear from ya
  • ameg, I've been doing WW now since January and have had a lot of success with it. I find it very easy to count the points and follow the program. I too have trouble with a low carb diet. Even though I don't eat bread or pasta I also have trouble eating very much meat. I would starve on low carb.

I was diagnoised with PCOS about a month and a half ago and have been lucky that it has not effected my weight loss. Though I must say I have fewer symptoms than a lot of poeple and consider my self lucky, cause it could be far worse. For most this is an incredible battle that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I hope that you too are also able to find relief in WW and have great success in your future.

    All the best,
    Kassie
  • ameg:

I think if you have PCOS, the best plan with WW would be the core plan...unfortunately for us PCOSers, not "low" carb but "right carb" is certainly the way to go, since our bodies are most likely having trouble processing sugar. If you find you need more accountability, I would incorporate both plans together..so you keep your "white breads" and "non core" foods to about 35 points a week, but still hold yourself accountable for the other things you eat.

    Just a thought, good luck,

    Melissa
  • I am doing the point system and I will weigh in the first time (this time- I had fallen off the wagon 3 times before being diagnosed) this Friday. I didn't have success with the core plan as I had trouble keeping myself satisfied and not stuffing myself. I feel like I have more control on the points system. Maybe I can move over to the core plan eventually but not right now. I need the strickter regimine. I try to stay away from high carb food and eat very little of it. I eat whole wheat pasta when I make it at home (I was skeptical, but it is very good. Ronzoni Healthy Harvest is the best) Wheat bread when I eat it. I really like these flatbreads that have 15g of fiber and 8 carbs and 3g fat in one large flat bread. I make all kinds of things with them. Wraps, quesadillas, pizzas. If you ever need ideas for different low point options, I have learned a lot. I know how to do the things but the frustration came when I would do the right things and see no results. I didn't know that it was all from the PCOS and IR. My first weigh in going back to WW is Friday.
  • I am doing WW with a friend but I chose the core plan because it was similar to the Insulin Resistance. So it's just the same thing and I can still do the WW with results
  • I'm beginning the WW points in hopes of reducing my PCOS symtpoms, too. I'm doing them at home. I tried SBD and Atkins -- can't do it. Feel to gross on Atkins and SBD doesn't help me with controlling servings.

I'd love to know if anyone has had success.
  • I am doing the WW points. So far I have been very succesful in my first month. I have lossed 18lbs. The last time I did WW I lost abouty 60lbs and at that time I didn't know I had PCOS. I didn't get dx until after my hystro later that year. After hystro, I didn't care about my weight anymore and basically stopped going to WW. Now I am back and losing again!
  • I have been doing WW since mid-feb and it's working well for me. I do the flex program since counting points is important for me not to overeat. I do try to eat well, brown pasta & rice, lots of veggies and fruits and not too much sugar. What is helping me the most to lose weight is definitively exercising.

My weight loss so far have help me regulate my cycle which is the first sign I'm getting that the pco symptoms are diminishing.
  • Good luck on WW!

I have been having great results with the GI Diet!! I love it!

    Sue
  • can i join in? i started ww core a few weeks back
  • I too have been following the points plan. I have lost 12.5 lbs since starting it a month ago. I find that I feel too restricted with a l/c or insulin resistance diet...so it is working for me. I also take 2000 mg glucophage a day, and I walk 30 mins a day/5xs a week. Keep up the great work!
  • wtg kelly!!!!
  • I have PCOS and low-carb isn't for me either. I used to hang out at the soulcysters web site alot, but everyone there does the low-carb or IR Diet type thing, and it's just not for me, so I moved over here. I am not an "active" WW member, but I am basically following a WW/Volumetrics type plan, and so far I am loving it and doing well. My friend laos has PCOS and has lost 77 pounds doing the same, calorie counting type diet. I don't care what anyone says about how low-carb is better for PCOS. I used it as an excuse for awhile to do NOTHING. I would say how I hated low carb and couldn't stick to it, but that everyone says low-cal is bad for PCOS, so instead I opted to do nothing. Now, I am actually doing something and losing and getting healthier each day. So, just do what works for YOU! As long as you lose the weight slowly and steadily and get plenty of physical activity, I don't see how it can do anything but improve your health and your PCOS symptoms. Women with PCOS may have insulin resistance, but insulin resistance is improved by losing weight, so does it really matter how we lose it as long as we do?

WW is supposed to be the most successful, proven weight loss program, so if you're happy with it and feel you can stick to it for life, then go for it!!!
  • I started WW flex at home (on my own) about three weeks ago, and so far I've lost ten pounds. It hasn't been hard for me, as I can eat almost any food I want so long as I account for the points. I started this about a month after being diagnosed with PCOS.
  • hi tatian! hi amy! wtg amy!!! weve got something in common: i started ww on my own 6 weeks ago and joined a group midway and am now dn 20 1/4.
