  • I live in NC and I LOVE to eat anything sweet. I am addicted. I'm trying to cut back on carb. I know the more I eat the more I want. This was my first week. I started 2-28-05. I listen to a weight loss tape at night and try to just eat a healthy meal. I been to WW a million times so I go by their rules. I need help to keep me on the right path.
  • Hi sweeteater, welcome to 3FC We live in Tennessee, so we can relate to the sugar addiction Southerners are born with! It can be hard to get control of, but it's not impossible. Do you keep a food log? If not, get a blank notebook and start writing down everything you eat, including every bite of sweet you can't resist. Seeing it in print can really help put it into perspective. Clean out the pantry. If it isn't there, you can't eat it Buy sweets that will fit in with your diet. If your diet plan allows sugar free pudding, ice cream, or other sugar free treats, then buy some to keep on hand. Keep Splenda on hand, instead of sugar. I only buy sugar when I bake for family holiday meals. I don't mind carbs, but sugar is devoid of any nutrition and a waste of calories. Weight Watchers offers a very good plan that allows sweets every day, within reason. If portion control is your problem, then only buy very small quantities at a time. Take it one day at a time. Make it your goal to just get through today without overeating the sweets. Just one day. The next day will be easier

Hopefully someone will come along that can help you with this more Please feel free to check out our support forums, we have a lot of great groups of inspirational people facing daily struggles, and overcoming them. We'd love you have you with us
  • Hi, sweeteater. Sweets are a struggle for me, too, especially really rich desserts. I've found that if I stick to a balanced diet with lots of fruits & veggies and enough protein, then after a while the craving for sugar diminishes. I still allow myself a tiny dessert after dinner so I don't feel deprived (and I do mean tiny: the whole serving has to be small enough to fit in my cupped palm). It also helps when I avoid having sugar as part of my breakfast, as that seems to set the tone for what I eat the rest of the day. Don't worry, if you're eating right, you will see an improvement in your sugar cravings soon.
  • I heard that when eating sweets, I should use the twwo bite rule. That way I allow myself the taste without the guilt. I heard that the two bites satisfies the craving without all of the calories. Also I noticed when I ea t slower, I get the satisfaction of the sweets, but it lasts much longer so in my mind, making it last is better than scarfing it down. Although candy bars (Twix, Skor, and Kit Kat) seem to be my biggest weaknesses.
