Work schedule

  • Hi everyone :-) I am a newbie I signed up a few day ago and having had a chance to get in here and explore very much again because of my hectic schedule. I don't know where to begin, but here I go....
My name is Lee and I am 53 years old I live in Idaho for the last 13 years I am orginaly from New York. I am 5ft 9 and I weigh 180 I want to go down to 160 that is my goal . But I have a problem... My work schedule I work 12 hours a week 3 nights on and 4 nights off and 4 nights off and three nights on. Is there anyone out there that is having problems with their schedule like I am??Is there a solution for people like us. Help!
    Thanks,
    Lee :-)
P.S. I will probably not have time to reply right away I work overtime on days today and won't be home till after 6PM tonight.
    Thanka again.
  • Hi there Lee--

I used to have a schedule just like that a couple years ago when I worked for Sony. It was 12hr days, 4 days on and 4days off....I loved the schedule. It worked for me and I was able to get some good exercising in!

For me, when I had that schedule, I had to think of squeezing in some "work on me" time even though I had 4 days off coming. I joined the gym they had at work and on my lunch break I would walk or job on the treadmill or lift weights...anything. I used my shorter breaks to eat. I had a great schedule going on and I managed to lose 25lbs or so while I was there.

I have gained back 10 of those pounds since Sony closed...but I'm working on it again and it's slowly coming off.

I'm not sure how you want to work your schedule, because what worked for me may not work for you. Just try and figure out how to fit in some time for yourself. Maybe try not to work overtime (unless it's mandatory) and use that day to do something for yourself.

Good luck and I hope that you get a chance to post more!!
  • Thanks Marti,
And it true what you said what works for you might not work for me. But you have been there in the past so you kinda understand what I am talking about . Yes it great I love my hours but we just had end of quarter and everyone had to put in there part in overtime. so now I will be playing catching up on my work out time. but the eating part of it is where the problem lays. I am pretty active, I work out at least 3 to 4 times a week. I have my own gym room at home with everything I need and I try not to eat fatty foods and I drink plenty of water but I still have been on a plato for about a year don't know if that has anything to do with age but all I know it's not working :-) something Iam doing it not right, but I am not a quiter so I will continue working on it until I find the solution. Also I failed to mention I quit smoking last May so it will be one year this May that's pretty cool. and I think that's about the time I started gaining weight. But I am not going to use that as an excuse :-) I know I can do it! Thanks for replying hope to hear from you.

  • Congratulations on quitting smoking!! I think that is just wonderful!! I am trying to do that myself. And right now...it's just not working. I know I need to WANT to quit..and I NEED to quit. Just doing it is the problem. I had quit for four years and started up again! Terrible isn't it?

As for the plateau.....I have lost weight and now I've been sitting on 145-150 for a couple years now. I should be happy that it only fluctuates about 5lbs. but I would like to get back down in the 130's somewhere. I've been there so I know it can happen! I wish I could give you great advice on how to get pass that plateau...but since I'm sitting in the same situation.....

It sounds like you have great workout plan as it is and you're careful at what you eat, Maybe a change in what you do for physical activity could help? Summer is just around the corner and maybe you can do more outdoorsy activities. That is my plan. I want to drag out that bike that's being unused and use it. And I also would like to walk more. Give myself a variety. Keep from getting bored w/being active.

Keep on checking in and let me know how you're doing. If you ever want to find me, I'm usually posting at the Jaded Ladies Forum which you are more than welcome to join. But I'm always browsing so I'll keep in touch!

And let me know if you find that miracle to getting pass the plateau!!
