What am I going to do? Need advice and help!

  • I can't believe this. I went to the doctor on Thursday because I've been getting bad headaches at night and have just been unusually cold. Turns out that I had a fever and a sinus infection. Thursday night, the fever hit me full force. It went away over night, as I woke up Friday morning drenched with sweat. I didn't exercise at all on Thursday. I tried doing some pilates yesterday, but only managed to do a half hour. Then the sinus infection really hit me. I've been coughing like crazy and my head is KILLING me. The fever came back again last night.

What am I going to do about exercising? I've lost 21 lbs. already and have been so proud of myself. But, I'm just starting and now I'm just so damn sick. Do I exercise anyway? I don't know what to do. I don't want all those pounds I lost already to be for nothing.
  • I'm sorry your not feeling well! Rule of thumb, don't work out when your that sick. A head cold is one thing, but a fever is another. Honestly you would just be wasting your time going through the motions but not having enough snot to keep your form. You will not gain back the 21 lbs in the 3-5 days that it will take to have your feeling yourself again. Just continue to eat sensable and take care of yourself!!!!
  • That's the thing about this being a lifestyle change, life still happens, even when we're trying to lose weight. Your body is sick, you've got to focus on making it better. And if that means missing a few days of exercise to give yourself some much needed rest, then that's what you've got to do. Now, the trick is to not let yourself make excuses about the exercise once you're well enough to start again. As soon as you feel up to it you've got to get right back in the routine, even if it's only a little at a time in order to build your strength back up. Now, go back to bed and get yourself better!! You'll be back on your feet in no time.

  • What a drag. But you can still focus on eating right (soup soup soup). You could also try doing some light yoga (not a lot of bending over stuff, just mild stretches, especially ones where you're sitting down!). This will help keep your musles toned at least, so when you start exercising again you're not all stiff. But mostly, be gentle with yourself. It'll only be a few days. Do some inspirational reading, journaling, whatever, so you're mind stays on track. hang in there! Sue
  • Thanks guys! *hugs for all* My mother brought me over some home-made chicken noodle soup...she scooped all the fat off of the top of it. So, I ate some broth with carrots. Yummy! I'll have no prob sticking to my "diet" as I'm really not hungry and have to force myself to eat, even if it's only soup!
Yeah, I was really freaking out...thinking, "all this work for nothing!" LOL That's me though...worry, worry, worry! Going to go lay down now!
