Hey There All.... Hope Everyone Has A Great Mothers Day.....
I have a question.... During Exercise (in particular aerobic exercise like walking, videos, ellipical machine, etc.) my legs will start to tingle/itch real bad.... I have been known to leave large marks on my legs from scratching.
I am assuming this is a circulation problem. I have had it since I was 15 and only weighed 97# and ran 6 miles a day. (Those were the days)
I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. If anyone knows something to do for it. It is really driving me crazy these days.....
Any Ideas?
Thank you.
I'm an itchy skin person too!
If it only happens during exercise, it could be your skin reacting to your sweat...kind of like when you swim in the ocean - when the water dries, the salt residue can really drive you crazy!
I'm no dermatologist - but I itch too. It drives Jim up the wall at night. Usually my legs and stomach itch. I try to take tepid baths (sometimes using Aveeno) and then slather on Gold Bond Lotion (I like the one in the green bottle with extra moisturizers). Drinking more water couldn't hurt either!
Hope that helps.
Actually, I've heard that such itching is a result of the improved circulation that comes from exercise, and your body's attempt at cooling. Your circulatory system is not only amped up with the exercise, trying to supply all your cells with the oxygen they need to sustain the activity, but it is also trying to cool you by moving blood to your capillaries -- the veins just beneath the surface of the skin. Just as your body will conserve blood in your core when you are too cold, it will push it to the surface for contact with the cooler external environment when you are too hot. Anyway, the upshot of this can be severe itching. Often it is worse when you are out of shape and beginning exercise for the first time, since you overheat easily. I've personally noticed it's worst when I'm exercising outside in cold weather. However, since you've had this problem for a long time, I'd suggest talking to a doctor about it, and seeing if he or she has any suggestions other than "wait for it to go away". In the meantime, maybe try an extra fan or a spray bottle of cool water to help you cool down, or make sure that you're not overexerting yourself + staying in your target heart range?
Thank you for the information... I have never heard of that before.... I will chat with my new doctor about this... my old thought I was an idiot (as I though he was - when I had my hysterectomy and had feelings of being an it he told me to get over it - JERK!!!) anyway, I have a new one so I will ask HER!!!
Thank you again... i will give your suggestions a try until then....
