  • Hi!

    My name is Robin. I'm 36 and happy to be a wife and mom of 4. I want to join weight watchers but right now my finances are tight. Besides excercizing (starting to use my membership to the Y starting tomorrow) What would you suggest I do to start a new plan of eating? I have about 75 lbs. to lose. I am attracted to weight watchers because it seems more flexible. I have tried so many plans just to name a few: Insulin resistance, Carbo addicts, Schwarzbien, Body for life and the list goes on. I have pcos and hashimotos thyroiditis, So they both make it more difficult to lose. I become frustrated and give up after not seeing results after a few weeks. That is why I think the whole idea of being accountable at a meeting is appealing. Does anyone have any advice to get me started until I can afford to go to a WW meeting? I never been to WW so I have no idea what is all about except they have 2 plans one you eat basically off a special list and the other you count points.
    So I'm basically clueless, so... any help is appreciated Thanks!

  • You're not alone Robin - I'm also looking to join WW but unsure about how. Finances are tight for me also, and I've heard it costs $60 to join for 3 months. Seems steep, but I don't know what all that includes. I am going to the local public library today though, I'm sure they have some information.. not sure how recent it will be, though.
  • I don't know about the public meetings, but our WW@work program is $135 for 13 weeks, or roughly 3 months. $60 would be a bargain in my opinion, but not if you can't afford it.

    If you're going for the Flex plan, where you count the points, you can find all sorts of information out there. Just do a google search on "weight watchers information" and there will be all sorts ... in fact, probably an overload ... of info.

  • Ours is 18 bucks to register, then 12 a week. Call and find out for sure what your payment options are. Consider doing it with your tax return.
  • I have been doing WW for about a year and have never gone to a meeting or bought into the online program. WHile I think they are great, I didn't have the $ when I started, so I got some supplies and spent at least 1/2 hour everyday on line here and at Dottie's wieght loss zone. I have followed the program, upped the exercise and lost 47 lbs. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more.
  • go to www.weightwatchers.com and look on the website. They have 3 options:

    1) online - costs with a registration free and then either monthly or pay every 3 months and averages about $60

    2) at home (avail only in certain areas) - cost is about $100 (can be divided up last I looked over the course of 3 months) and you get all the materials you would get at the meetings plus a points calculator, dining out and food companions

    3) meetings - many areas are running specials (free registration in may places) so check for a meeting in your area then click on specials and see what it would cost

    If you try to order from e-bay more than likely you'll get ripped off in cost so watch if you try to get the info from there.

    As for getting frustrated when seeing no losses you have to remember this is a journal and you will see losses and sometimes even gains doing the program 100% each week. For no reason the body can rebel. Look for the NSV too - measurements, walking up a flight of stairs w/o being out of breath, etc.
