Nervous about tomorrow(monday) morning

  • Tomorrow(monday morn) morning I have an appointment with a trainer at our YMCA(I have a membership there). It is with the get started program where she will teach me how to use the machines and such and work on a program best suited for me. It is a 45min appt. I haven't worked out in many many years and I am nervous about it tomorrow. My biggest fear is that everyone is going to be watching me and thinking OMG that lady is huge. Plus I sweat so easily and profusely(sp?) too.

Wish me luck with tomorrow and that I keep up with it too

  • Just pretend you are only person in the room. Take a dry wash rag or something to wipe your face off and go for it. I use to pin one to my shirt with a safety pin.I am sure the trainer will start you off slow. Don't try to do too much as you will get discouraged. I know you can do it so don't let any strangers keep you from doing this. You are always going to run into rude people. They aren't worth you wasting time even thinking about them. They will get their's someday.
Go girlfriend Go and don't let anyone get in your way.
  • I know you did fantastic!
Jen, I am sorry you were worring about your appointment. Don't let others keep you from reaching for the stars! You can do this. As Eleni said, take a wash cloth or hand towel. That is for you, not what others think!
By now I know you are past the first step, now on to the next one!
Before long you will see the #'s coming off and it will be so worth the effort.
    We are here for you...
    TOPS hugs,
    Wanda
  • Jen,
Instead of thinking people are looking at you b/c you are overweight...... think about how proud they are that you are there changing your health!

You are doing the right thing and We are very proud of you! And you should be proud of yourself also!

PS I am at 169 and I still sweat like a hog.....
  • Jen, Monday is here and I know all will go well...
I am so proud of you for taking this step out of your comfort zone to exercise. Once you learn your routine you will be less self conscious and as far as sweating, just bring a hand towel wrapped around your neck and maybe a fabric headband to keep the prespiration from getting in your eyes. Let us know how it goes. We are cheering you on!

  • Thanx everyone....went for my workout and...
Well I went and did and no one made fun of me or looked at me weird. Infact once I got in there and doing stuff I never thought about it anymore...LOL.

My trainer has started me off with doing a 5 min warm up on the bike, then doing 4 different weight machines with 1 set at 12 reps each except the one for my legs which is 3 sets at 12 reps each(working different muscles each set), and then doing 15mins on the treadmill.

I tried the elliptical machine and OMG no way could I last even 5 mins on that..LOL

Anyhow I feel good so far...a wee bit pooped as I walk there and back too, so that's a little extra exercise, but it's more leisurely done

  • Jen, so glad that it went so well for you...
Jen, so glad that your trip to the gym went so well for you. Now, you will find it a pleasure to go back. Keep up the good work. We are proud of you!

  • Jen,
Glad to hear that you went ahead and tried the trainer. And it was very smart of you for taking the time to hook up with someone who can show you the proper way to do the exercises. It's very hard to step out of our comfort zone. You are correct in thinking that no one looked at you weird. I work out in a co-ed gym and when I'm in the weight room, it's mostly guys. I was very self-conscious at first, but now those guys are my buddies..and when they started asked me how much weight I had lost, I felt great about myself. They see me as fit as them. They give me advice and also ask me to help spot them. It won't be long and you will be "one of the regulars".. when you get to that place, remember to smile at all the new people and say hi.

Great job! You will do great!
