When is it too much excercise?

  • I'm pretty out of shape, so I bought some workout videos and try to cram them in between baby naps (I have 2 girls under 2). Yesterday, I tried mtv pilates for a few minutes and changed my mind and did Crunch Cardio Sculpt, and I stopped midway through because I was really tired, but I felt fine body-wise. Today though, my thighs right above my knees are KILLING me. It feels like the muscle is on fire. Talk about feeling the burn!

So how do you know when to stop if your body feels fine?

Also, while I'm making a post, has anyone tried to work out on an excercise machine, like an elliptical, with children in the room? Is that even worth trying?
  • being sore is not a bad thing. even being really sore is not a bad thing. thats why you are supposed to allow for one day of rest between major strenght training days. as long as you are doing the excercises properly (form-wise) you muscles will let you know when you should call it quits. however, improper form will lead to injury rather quickly. if you are jkust sore, you don't have anything to worry about, you had a very effective workout. if you think you have damaged something, you may need to slow down your workout and watch your form. just rest and take it slow. do the workout twice a week or cut it in half. build up slowly. soon enough you will see a major difference in the soreness.
