Back to being a vegetarian...

  • wow, i haven't visited these boards since august! i missed it!

anyway, i used to be a vegetarian. well, a pesco-vegetarian, that is. i did not eat poultry or red-meat, but did eat fish and dairy. it lasted about 2 years and i honestly don't know what happened that made me go back to being a meat-eater.

but things have been changing. i have never been a meat lover (compared to my siblings and father) , i just ate it for the convenience. but now my mother is having some health issues and not eating meat will help her tremendously. and i think having someone to join her will keep her on track.

i am excited. back when i was a vegetarian, i felt so much healther and maintained a very good weight (137 at 5'3 and half). i am excited to go back.

i am going to do it gradually, because i have grown to like poultry. my first step is to cut out red-meat, which should be fairly easy. the poultry is what is going to kill me! i really like chicken (and i used to hate it! ) but i know i can handle it.

going to the bookstore in the next couple of days, to pick up some good recipe books.

    just glad to be here
  • Good Luck with it. When I turned veggie I did it gradually I actually kept up fish for 6 months or so into the diet before I felt fully ready to give it up. Now I'm gradually turning vegan. If you do it gradually it should give your body and mind the chance to get used to it.
  • Mind if I join you?

I was a veggie several times in my life (I'm 54) but each time I went back to eating meat. It's not that I like it that much, I can definitely live without it, but my DH eats meat and it was just convenient for me to eat like him. Well, not anymore. I have eliminated animals from my diet. I need to lose a lot of weight, over 100 pounds, and I'm hoping this will help.

I might do a veggie version of WW but still not sure.
  • I am doing a veggie version of weight watchers and so far it is going pretty well, although I gave up on going to meetings about three weeks in and just coout points and weigh in on my own.

I am thinking of moving toward vegan eating, but I have a difficult time with the cooking part of it. I cook a ton and have not yet found a cheese substitute that is not a pale shade of the glory that is really good sharp cheese. I am a bit of a cheese snob
  • Being veggie is very easy with slimming world. Just stick to the green day plan all the time.
