  • Hi heartbeat --
I am not in Australia, but we did just come back from a full month in New Zealand and Australia in June. Traveled there with my hubby and two of my 4 kids. We had THE BEST time. We loved Sydney (a true GEM), and the Outback, and Cairns and Brisbane. Did not make it to the South and West on this trip though!

I am 58, happily married and living on the East Coast of the US, in New Haven Connecticut (home of Yale University.) I gained most of my extra 50 pounds after the birth of my second child, when I was 37. I am 178 pounds now, and only 5'4". My ideal weight is about 134 -- although I have been as low as 111 pounds (just before my second marriage at age 30).

I am quite active, and muscular, so I wear a size 14, and don't look grotesque, but I am really tired of the extra pounds. I look like a grandmother (and I am, but with a young face and very little gray hair) and feel I could look and feel much better if I were less heavy.

I went on Atkins in March of 2003, and lost 12 pounds -- down from 185 to 173, but have gained back 5 pounds over the past year...

I still eat very few carbs, and no sugar (except in fruit), but my activity level has been down for some time, despite playing tennis 3 or 4 times a week. I used to also walk at least 2 miles a day.

So I am interested in having a buddy to "whinge" to and also to report in with. Let me know if you'd like to correspond.

    All the best to you,
    Ruth

P.S. I would enjoy being part of your "group". *-D

    Starting weight: 178
    Goal: 134
Short term goal: Lose 5 pounds by Oct. 31

My real estate magazine is online at: www.revmag.com I am the editor and my husband, Henry, is the publisher. It is totally boring to anyone not in our field of real estate valuation -- but it does show my work! *-D

  • Hi Julie, Jackie and Ruth!!
This hasn't been a good week for me
The kids are on holidays and in one day we had lunch at Hungry Jacks (an Aussie name for Burger King) and dinner at McDonalds. I only had salad at McDonalds, but couldn't resist finishing the kids nuggets Then all last night I had my four year old throwing up every half hour, then hour and finally 3 hours. The last time was at 5am (it's now 5pm) and he has been asleep for a couple of hours I have had about an hours sleep agghhhh!!!

Ruth, what a shame I didn't know you before you came here!! I'm about an hour inland from Brisbane!!!
My brother is an american citizen and used to live in Mass (Acton) and then NH (Brookeline) Near Nashua, not far from Pheasant Lane Mall. He worked for Gartner Group, who have their head offices in Connecticut (Stamford) He is now living in Boulder Co.
I'm hoping to get back over there for a hoiday in july 2005
