Anyone know if this is coming out in the UK? I have emailed WW but don't expect a reply for a couple of days. I'm interested in it.

Oh, so is it limited to the States/Canada I did'nt know that I should imagine its a rip off of Slimming World from what i've heard about it

See! Everyone will see sense soon enough and realise Slimming World is the way the truth and the light

I bought a slimming world mag while I was home, it's very interesting. I was going to go and go to a meeting, but it was the same day I went to the embassy and I didn't get there....
I really need to get on track here soon, have been a very good girl today though and packed up some chocs for a friend in Illinois, given loads away to friends, but saying that, there's still temptation looking at me and calling my name from behind the freezer door HELP ME!

I would imagine that your question was prompted by the recent publicity
about Weight Watchers in America and the fact that you have heard that
they launched a Programme called TurnAround(tm) for their Meetings
Members and Subscribers. Obviously as an innovative weight-loss company
we constantly evolve and update our weight loss programmes so that we
offer the best available in all of our world wide markets and in doing
so take cultural and regional influences into consideration

We are not planning to launch TurnAround(tm) in the UK but do similarly
change our Programme on occasions - so rest assured, when we have any
further information for our Members in the UK, our Meetings Members,
Subscribers and At Home Customers will be the first to know!

So just continue to have complete faith in Time To Eat - and be ready
for all the news in October/November.

I bet they'll bring it out here in the Autumn but don't want to commit themselves just yet as to saying when...It's not exactly the same as Slimming World (which I have done on a number of occasions) as it's kind of a mix of Red and Green Days. I have done WW points plan before but just don't find that there's enough to eat. I got details of the new WWW plan from someone on another board, as follows:-

So, what do you all think? Looks interesting but I want to study it as it's obviously geared to the States and don't know how it would work in Tesco! Since WW are a (very) commercial organisation I believe they are trying to keep up with dieting trends in the US, and where they lead, we follow, IMO!

Hey Louise a friend of mine sent me the core plan and you get 35pts to eat per week and a list of 'free' foods. Everything that is on the core list is a free food unless you eat more servings of the foods that have a specific serving limit per day i.e. Wholewheat Pasta, Brown Rice or Potatoes, they are limited to once a day as is less than 7% fat minced beef, ground turkey and ground chicken. So it is similar to Slimming World free foods and 5pts per day as opposed to free foods and 10-15 syns per day Not sure about all the ins and outs of the plan I guess I would have to attend a meeting for that

I've spent most of the morning printing out the Core Plan so i'm going to try that and see how it goes I'm not familiar with a lot of the 'branded' foods either Louise but you would be able to follow it in the UK cuz they have Birds Eye and Del Monte* on there and (*the man..he say yes) is sold everywhere

Can you send me the core plan? I'd love to have a read if possible, and I need to get down to serious business here..am still eating chocolate and the whacks were helpful byt my non willpower brushed them off like you hit me with a feather duster

Hi, well I've printed all the garb which is a list of all sorts of food, is this the free stuff then? It doesn't really explain I printed it up from. Am I correct in understanding that I can have 35 points extra a week that counts from all the points I already know about and this list enables me to add more as it's free to eat when I've convinced myself I'm starving? Help please

Hey Chris, yeh that is the free food list and you get 35pts per week for extras but I have'nt got a pts list so i've resorted to asking the girls over at the W.W. Core thread for help I also have a link that I will email you that has a an activity pts calculator and a recipe builder (I can't use that cuz its requires Microsoft Excel )

WeightWatchers shape up to Atkins challenge

With profits and membership notably slimmer, the famous diet company is about to offer a tastier alternative



WEIGHTWATCHERS is to overhaul its famous diet programme for the first time in nearly a decade after seeing 1.4 million Americans abandon its meetings for rival “low-carb” schemes.
The new WeightWatchers fat-beating programme could mean the end of point-counting and dieters taking calculators to restaurants to add up calories instead of the tip.



WeightWatchers’ Core Plan is designed to lure slimmers away from the fashionable Atkins and South Beach diets, which ban certain carbohydrates but allow high-fat foods such as bacon and steaks.

Crucially, the Core Plan allows dieters to eat as much as they want of certain foods — broth-based soup, wholewheat pasta, fat-free mayonnaise and lean, skinless chicken, for example — giving at least the impression of indulgence. To make it work, the company’s scientists have picked out high-volume foods with “low-energy density” — in other words, nutritious foods that fill stomachs without huge amounts of calories.

Dieters will also be able to enjoy a points-based “allowance” for treats such as beer and creamy salad dressing. As in the Atkins diet, high-starch foods such as white rice will be banned. Unlike Atkins, however, there is a greater focus on nutrition.

The plan will initially be unveiled in the US and Canada, with the UK arm introducing a modified version in January. But WeightWatchers UK gave only a lukewarm reaction to the US move.

It said: “The Core diet provides something for members who may well have rejected Atkins and low-carb diets but enjoy the freedom that choosing liberally from core food groups brings.

“WeightWatchers UK may well feel in the future that the Core Plan is also something our members would benefit from and we are ready when that time comes to adopt a similar approach to the programme, although once again we will ensure that all of the UK members’ needs are fully taken into account.”

There are more than a million WeightWatchers in the UK, with 6,000 meetings held every week. New research shows that the number of UK dieters has more than doubled in the past 18 years. According to the British Nutritional Association, one in three adults says that they have dieted last year, compared with just one in six in 1986. This makes the market more lucrative than ever, with Datamonitor estimating its worth at £11 billion.

For the time being, WeightWatchers will keep a points-based system, called the Flex Plan, and dieters will be offered the chance to combine it with the Core Plan. Karen Miller-Kovach, the chief scientist for WeightWatchers, based in New York, said that in an 18-month study with 10,000 dieters, “some people felt the Flex Plan provided them with more freedom because it offered the entire range of foods, while others felt the Core Plan was more freeing because it focused on wholesome foods without counting”.

The new diet comes at a difficult time for WeightWatchers, whose shares, which are traded on the New York Stock Exchange, have plummeted by 24 per cent since 2002, mainly because of the success of Atkins-style programmes. The company, run by Linda Huett, 59, who earned nearly $5 million (£2.7 million) last year, said last week that its 2004 profits would be lower than expected. It also reported a 5.4 per cent fall in revenues.
